Here's what I mean. Since WW2, the entire global regime was enforced by either US hegemony or Soviet hegemony, and eventually just US hegemony. What this means is whenever you hear someone babbling on about "international law", all that really means is it is something that the US or the Soviet Union, and later just the US, simply allowed to happen.
It's really that simple.
The reason why third-worlders use human shields as a common tactic is, well, it worked. They knew that the US wouldn't attack civilians. This is why you'd see the Taliban have kids in their formations to avoid getting hit by Apache air strikes. Israel after 2023 changed the game by deciding, fine we'll just kill the human shields anyway. You can debate the morality of that, but from a practical standpoint, the Hamas rocket attacks stopped.
Third-world tactics like human shields only worked because the US decided that they work. At any time we could have just air striked Taliban formations and killed the human shields anyway. We chose not to, but we could have.
People claiming that the Iranian regime is having some kind of moral victory have lost the plot. The US is able to blow up Iran's bridges and power plants. Iran is not able to blow up the US's bridges and power plants. The US is able to park aircraft carriers outside of Iranian waters and conduct daily air strikes. Iran is not able to park aircraft carriers outside of US water and conduct daily air strikes.
You're welcome to complain about that, but in the real world, that doesn't matter. What matters is who has the stronger men with guns.
