I buried my two in the last three years. They were both 12. Had them since they were babies. Black Lab and terrier mix. Some folks don’t understand how they become family. It sucks. Sorry for your loss.

I’ll chime in, just because I don’t have anywhere else to do it.

Neighbor dropped dead at 4 am on the 28th. 53 years old. Otherwise the picture of health. Runner, hunter, golfer, doctor. DEVOUT Christian. Last one I’d expect of anybody I know. Not an exaggeration.

Had actually just picked up and relocated to a new life in VA where they expected their kids to end up. Had not sold their house here yet, though. First grandbaby coming in 3 months. He and his wife were best friends, and it showed. USAFA grad with 20+ years in active and guard. Retired a bird colonel, then both kids went to West Point. Younger one there a year a head of my younger one, so we had a lot to talk about.

One of the hardest hits I’ve ever taken, including family. When you talk about somebody that had a lot of life in front of him, this was the guy.

Sorry to hijack, and I dread the day our 11 yo Lenny crosses the rainbow bridge. I just wanted to tell a little about Jeff.

Next to the wife, Harley is my best friend . She is a schnauzer about 12 years old, scared of lightning and large fire works. Stays very close.

Dickey, tanzie, Gracie, have gone before and each is a loss

Dogs just teach us that life is so fragile, but so special. They are nonjudgmental witnesses to our lives.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend. It just sucks to lose a loved one. No matter what. and love your way.

Nothing will ever erase the memory a beloved pet. Yet the human heart has the boundless capacity to create space for a new favorite pet. There are plenty of “young yellers” down at your local shelter that are waiting just for you!

I loved all my dogs with all my heart. I have a stack of urns on my credenza with my beloved animals. They’re coming with me when I get boxed up.

If I had any say about what heaven will be like, I would love to think when I cross that bar that I will meet them in a beautiful green valley with a stream flowing through it. Lots of woods to wander in with my dogs.

And a few cats too!

Know the feeling all too well, W. Our yard is full of little mounds and markers of beloved and extraordinary friends. Like music, just the thought of one defines particular periods of our life. Whoever coined the phrase "man's best friend" nailed it.

Life is so bittersweet.

Mourn for your friend, W, and then get a puppy. Who knows how the miraculous mechanisms of Love work in this Spiritual Universe. That puppy can take the place of a lot of meds.

Sorry for your loss. Take time to reflect the memories. We took over a year before we welcomed a new dog to our family.
