That's part of it. The bigger part is that "we" really do not like US drug money being funneled to Iran. That has become a problem, and a real thorn in the Fed's side, over the past decade or so. It isn't so much about altruism and virtue of keeping drugs off American streets, but more about revenue flow being upset.

It's an insignificant amount. Venezuelan drug smuggling is a minor nuisance as the drug trade into the US.....I'd put the Chinese and Afghans at a higher level of threat before Maduro and speed boats who can't make it to Puerto Rico without multiple refuels along the way.
