Obama Plans to Transfer up to 18 GTMO Detainees Before Leaving Office

If the administration is successful, 41 or 42 prisoners would remain in Gitmo under President-elect Donald Trump, the New York Times reported.
Obama pledged to close down the Guantanamo Bay detention facility by the end of his presidency, calling the prison “contrary” to American values. Fifty-nine detainees remain in the prison of the 242 who were left to Obama by former President George W. Bush.
Though Obama will fail to shut the prison down before he leaves office, the president is attempting to move as many as possible of Guantanamo’s 22 prisoners who are recommended for transfer.
The Pentagon by law must notify Congress at least 30 days before a transfer moves forward. The deadline before Obama’s departure on Jan. 20 was Monday.
Can someone post the list of names from the NYTimes article. I won't pay to read them.
Obama trading and letting go our enemies; is the most ludicrous thing I have known of in my lifetime.

You would think he would be in a hurry to help the American people any way he can before he leaves office. He's too worried about his legacy, it seems.

The Pentagon should make some behind the scene phone calls to these countries and tell them to hold these guys until 21 Jan.......and then ship them back to Gitmo.

I'm with you Cajun...Obama just seems intent on letting as many law breakers and enemies of the US out as he can. It makes no sense if one believes he loves this country...it makes total sense if he dislikes this country as many have accused him.

I think that Congress enacted this after Obama traded for Bergdahl; and or released a crap ton of terrorists.

Trump said he will order the ROEs to make more, basic, common sense. If you see an enemy in your sight, choot em Lizabeth, choot em.
Problem solved. If some are not armed at the time send them to GTMO and get enemy information. If you want GTMO terrorist detainee GTMO closed- then take them in your home towns jails. Nancy Pelosi refused this. Such a hypocrite.

Not to mention, they are there right now. You can't go back in time and tell Bush to stop pulling so many people back to GTMO in the first place.

There is a list of GTMO-JTF detainee terrorists that have returned to the battlefield. (Including the ones Obama traded for Bergdahl)
