Youre trying too hard on this one.

Let's say a briefing was given to Bill Clinton that there was a rumor he'd fathered a biracial kid wth a hooker. CNN good to report on that? There was a briefing on it.

If the CIA briefed Clinton on a report from a private intelligence shop run by a former SIS guy saying that a foreign state had compromising info on him that included him potentially fathering a biracial kid?

Absolutely.

Rephrase the question: Would they report that?

So far from you, I've gotten "bullshite" and "you're trying too hard" when all my posts have been pretty thorough and rational.

If you've got a rebuttal, rather than just an emotional position you're unprepared to part with, I'd be very interested in hearing it.

Better question there. I don't know. I know BuzzFeed wouldn't have released the material had it been about a Democrat (or at least I'm confident in that guess).

Assuming there was an actual briefing and assuming the briefing wasn't done specifically for the purpose of propping up the Buzzfeed story (neither of which is established), if the story was Clinton being bought by the Chinese it would have never been reported.

It's 3rd level bullshite.

Yeah, so your point is the same as the other guy, which is not that it was journalistically unethical to run the story, but that it's a double standard?

Both. You can legalese a justification for it. Laws are not ethics. There's no ethical justification for running the story from the information we have.

You're accusing me of legalese when you haven't put forth a coherent argument about why it is unethical to report on. I'm not trying to bait or insult you, I just think you're taking a weak position based on your feelings toward CNN and MSM's attitudes toward Trump rather than what we actually know at present.

This is my problem. I can't stand hypocrisy. I don't care what or how media reports, but it needs to be consistent. Just like any football game- all you hope for from refs is consistency. Not a perfect game, just consistent and fair to both teams.

What is amazing is that CNN and Buzzfeed are in the WH press pool but National Inquirer is not.

Correct, but reporting on the hearsay that was supposedly presented by the IC is third-hand hearsay (news agency heard it from IC who heard it from someone else who made it up).

I wasn't accusing you of legalese, Sally. I was saying CNN could craft a legal justification for their story. They can't craft an ethical one.
