Sounds like Cuba. We know how successful that has been.

It's happening..

Goodr, in partnership with Martin Luther King Jr. High School and the City of Stonecrest, opened The Lion’s Den Grocery Store, the first-ever free grocery store within the DeKalb County School District.

Housed inside MLK Jr. High, this store will provide hundreds of students and their families access to fresh groceries throughout the school year in an environment built on dignity and respect.

In DeKalb County, where over 34% of residents live in poverty and with over 41% of Black households in DeKalb struggling to afford necessities, this initiative is more than just a convenience—it’s a lifeline.

How does giving people handouts foster dignity or respect

I can safely predict that would be the dirtiest grocery store around, with terrible customer service and horrible products.

They would probably limit what you can and can’t buy based on social credit score.

North Korea has guvment owned stores so why don't New Yorkers ask them? Oh, they can't because they are out in fields picking grass to boil and eat. Besides, there is no freedom of speech.

Will the employees be city employees with all the benefits? So the taxpayers will pay in taxes to “keep prices down”? I kind of want to see them do it and watch the massive failure.

Because you are giving them name brand handouts. Plus the more free stuff you give them the more they can afford the smart TVs and Iphones. Only a cold hearted bastard wants a kid to eat Fruit Os and watch a 32in TV.

Central planning has a great track record of success. I fully endorse this idea for the people of NYC.

They deserve the results it would bring, but the rest of us don’t need any of them moving out of NYC to the good areas.

Well that a-hole needs a little education. Almost all grocery stores operate on a 1-3% margin, and they do that in a very efficient manner. Now imagine a grocery store ran by the government...... You have to be one serious retard if you think the government can do that better.
