I wouldn't call Upstate NY based. Beautiful country, economically depressed, full of drunkards and druggies, sure, but not based.

I used to live there. It’s mostly based, but given the economic situation up there, I bet many like the free money. Small towns up there have all turned to shite. Even larger areas like Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse have been in decline for many years. The flip side to the stimulus money is the atrocious call to give money to illegals. That will not go over well. You are right about the drugs. It has become a huge problem up there with the economic woes

The paranoid part of me thinks that this is part of their master plan to turn the Deep South blue. They want to drive liberal citizens into more conservative areas so they can change the politics of said conservative areas.

Oh, you better believe these dumbasses will move to conservative areas and vote for the same people they did in their previous location.

I'm an Upstate NY native. The place has been in economic distress for my entire life. The shitty little town I grew up in has become even shittier. I left decades ago. I still have family up there and I'm a 'Cuse fan, so I get back there once in awhile for games or family stuff. It's still one of the prettiest and poorest places you could ever live.

Industry up there has become nonexistent. My mom still lives there.

Pretty much, there's a little bit of new stuff near Albany but it's only there because of government incentives and kickbacks.

It’s like nobody has done work on the houses since I was there 20 years ago. They are all crumbling. My particular town offshored a massive Philips plant that employed thousands. And look at Kodak in Rochester. It once had 50,000 employees. Now it has 5,000.

And it didn't have to happen that way.

Washington did that to them.

I was reading something this morning that companies are starting to move out of China and are going to Mexico. One reason is because of the tyrannical regime. The other is that it’s even cheaper. The pay in China averaged 4.50 at manufacturing plants. In Mexico it’s like 3.50-3.75

Not particularly smart when you consider telecommuting is on the upswing. I'd imagine a decent portion of the upper crust in NYC could work remotely somewhere else with huge gains to be had in quality of life.

My town is the same way. The last time I was there I couldn't believe the state of disrepair of all the houses in town. IBM in Binghamton is another company that closed up shop and put a lot of people out of work.

I was going to mention that ibm one in endicott, but I believe Lockheed Martin is still there. My brother used to work there. I think they mostly do simulators there. It’s not a massive plant or anything.

The winters up there are the most depressing months. The sun rarely shows it’s face and all the dirt and salt spreads everywhere when it’s snowing. Very grey and dirty.
