New York has canceled its Democratic presidential primary for the first time ever due to the coronavirus pandemic -- just one day after Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign asked that his name be allowed to stay on the ballot.

The move by Democrats on the New York State Board of Elections -- nixing the election scheduled for June 23 -- followed Sanders’ announcement earlier this month that he would suspend his presidential campaign, rendering former Vice President Joe Biden the presumptive Democratic nominee.

With this decision, New York became the first state to cancel its primary altogether, though 16 states have postponed their primaries amid the pandemic and many have taken steps to encourage voting by mail.

This will really encourage the Bernie Bros to either vote against the Dems or not vote at all in November. My understanding is that New York cancelled only the primary and none of the other elections. This indicates to me that the primary cancellation is really not due to Covid-19 fears. It is only to insure that Bernie does not get any primary votes.

What happens if more states cancel and Biden doesn’t get the required number of delegates to win the nomination

This link says there are other elections scheduled that day. LINK

And She Guevera is quoted:
quote:

"It is completely wrong for the BOE to cancel New York’s Presidential Primary," tweeted New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who had endorsed Sanders in the race. "This decision is not informed by public health: the state is still holding elections for every other seat that day, & so far the only way your ballot will 100% be counted in NY is to vote in person!"

The check has already cleared for Bernie's endorsement. Now he's apparently going to shake them down for some more to release his delegates.

The guy is a consummate grifter.

The GOP legislature and conservative SC in WI were called a bunch of killers for running the elections in a state with far far less Kung Flu than dem controlled NY state.

Waiting for the outrage.

Want to explain how Bernie's "grifting" is any different than every other candidate's grifting for campaign donations? Trump raised yuge amounts of money for his own campaign, despite being a billionaire. This is like a specific thing Trumpers can not target Bernie about. Don't even start with the three houses - you've seen pictures of them right? They're nothing extravagant. Or the book deal? As if any part of his platform conflicts with making your own money off your own work?

And to the person complaining about citing Wikipedia and Fox...there's nothing in this post that's false. This is downright dirty for NY to cancel the primary and it's not going to go over well for the base there.

As for Snopes...they're a neutral site and you guys only hate them when they side against your opinion of what the truth should be, lol.

I'm upset, but am unfortunately in that same boat.
