Several NW LA Republican lawmakers voted against raising the debt limit and as a result Republican leaders behind closed doors stripped almost all capital outlay projects from those districts. Benton, Blanchard, Haughton, Oil City among other small towns found the last minute budget left them high and dry. Money for the replacement of the dilapidated Jimmy Davis Bridge in Shreveport was also axed. All theprojects were in the original budget but when lawmakers finally had a chance to read the bill they had voted on, some found that the projects they thought were in the budget had been removed.
House Speaker Pro Temp Tanner Magee tells KEEL News "there was definitely an intention to move money to people who wanted to spend money on infrastructure." He adds: "I'm still not convinced people realized in the chaos that money was being taken out of the Jimmie Davis Bridge project."

Republican Speaker Pro Tem told Shreveports KEEL news radio that "there was definitely an intention to move money to people who wanted to spend money on infrastructure." He called a vote against raising the spending cap an "obstruction" of government.

These are your Republican leaders in BR and we wonder why our state is dead last in everything.

Disgraceful. The Jimmie Davis bridge is a dangerous bridge in clear need of repair/replacement.

Elections have consequences though. Vote Democrat, get Democrat corruption.

Sad to say but it’s uniparty politics. This is corruption at its best showing.

It is pretty visible, Red states get the bottom of the barrel.

The State has basically done ZERO maintenance on the bridge since it was built in the 1960s. The steel is visibly rusted, the road deck is full of pot holes, and it’s a major connecter to the only part of Shreveport that is growing.

If that bridge was in Detroit, Philly, Chicago....it would be replaced, IMO.

I said it before when this was posted. The disrespect the SLA republicans show the NLA contingency, the more likely state offices are held by Dems. Eg; JBL The social conservatives will blow up unity if pushed

NOLA.com

"The eruption of bad blood capped off four years of tension between Schexnayder’s leadership team and House conservatives, several members said, which had bubbled under the surface ever since Schexnayder turned to Democrats to help him win the speaker’s gavel.

It has prompted calls for rules barring such 11th-hour budget changes, as well as vows by conservatives in the House to install a more conservative speaker, especially after Democrats were rewarded in the budget over conservatives on the wrong side of Schexnayder.

Yet Schexnayder ended the final regular session of his speakership much as he began it: Estranged from House conservatives, backed by a small group of Republicans and in a tentative but solid alliance with House Democrats — who got roughly $1 million apiece in spending projects in return for supporting Schexnayder on budget issues.

As conservatives look ahead, they are vowing to move the House to the right and take power after being largely frozen out of leadership positions since Schexnayder took over in 2020. And they aren’t pulling punches after a debacle that had the House and Senate vote on a series of budget bills without knowing what was in them.

(Seabaugh) also said the tensions between Schexnayder and the conservatives have been “festering” for four years. Seabaugh and several other members said Miguez would frequently call GOP delegation meetings, only to have Schexnayder hastily arrange a lunch or other event, which they saw as an effort to neuter the delegation’s influence.

The cuts House leadership made to the budget, aimed at exacting retribution on certain members, have caught several key projects in the crossfire. Funding for the Jimmie Davis Bridge connecting Shreveport to Bossier, a crucial Port of New Orleans project supported by legislative leaders and long-sought funding for a state highway in Acadiana were all knifed in the final hours."

Conclusion: We are not a red state but we are a banana republic.

Yeah it just blew up in their faces becasue they are stupid.

The NW LA delegation is just dumb, no other way to describe. Maybe Jesus will keep the Jimmy David bridge from collapsing and killing a lot of people.

It wasn't a social issue they stood firm on, it was a fiscal one.

Instead of voting D air R we need to vote No party.

People need to leave the Louisiana Republican Party as it has become a joke.

Choose No party.

Stop voting for people just because they put R infront of their name.
We need to look at what they stand for.

they’re called stupid cause they didn’t vote for a bill after given just a couple minutes to read. Everything you hate about Louisiana is because of the good ole boy politicians in south Louisiana.
