NPR absolutely voiced the opinion that the case against Smollett was over the top, unusual, involved unnecessary police resources and personnel, and that this was all exemplified by the number of personnel on the stage in the press conference and the superintendent’s words describing Smollett and the police investigation against him.

They unequivocally voiced the opinion that it was a strange, atypical, and overzealous case to make for a false claim.
