It was a long-standing territory of both Britain and the Ottomans, though. Palestinians share basically the same DNA as Mizrahim Jews, which would indicate that they both have been there for a long, long time. Not that I give a frick about who is sovereign either way, so long as they give Christians the ability to worship in some of the oldest Churches in existence.

Historically, Jews have been the 'Other' within the societies they live in, so it makes sense that they do their best to celebrate the other 'Others', lest the native population begin to point fingers towards Jews for their indebtedness.
