re: No Speaker = no investigations into Hunter, Twitter, Intelligence Community, etc.

Who said I wasn't relaxed? I've barely paid attention

Why do you think they passed the omnibus bill and took away any leverage the house had until next September? They even said they screwed up by not including a budget provision in it.

This is what power looks like. It’s working, the Conservative wing are getting concessions.

As much as I would love to see those things, a gridlocked government is even better.

If it's Jefferies, definitely puts it at risk
But if it's just theater (which it is) then who cares?

FFS, there’s going to be a Speaker. It’s doesn’t have to happen immediately and it absolutely doesn’t have to be the next guy up.
Use your vapors, Karen.

OH NO!! Not the super important investigations!!!
Yup! Doncha know? They are the Game-Changers we need!!
OH WAIT. (that's not gonna matter -- I agree. BUT FORCING McCarthy to move his shite OUT of the Speaker's Office would be priceless.)
Uni-Party smoking room: "Meh. Heads we win. Tails you lose."

No one anywhere on earth, except apparently you, thinks Hakeem Jeffries will be Speaker.
You will have your pointless/sham investigations soon enough.

Gaetz and the others can frick around all they want, but that's the reality. None of the alternatives that have been proposed (Scalise, Jordan, etc.) want the position, and they have all also endorsed McCarthy.
I am not a fan of McCarthy either, but that's the reality.
So? What happened with all the investigations the Republicans ran previously? Also, do you really think McCarthy won't put up roadblocks to these investigations?
Kevin McCarthy cannot become Speaker - it's time to start removing the swamp creatures from DC.

If McCarthy said no to this, the melting would be endless

Do I really need to explain this again?

And?
I think McCarthy should step aside AND believe that every “investigation” you referenced is pointless political bullshite.

Honestly?
IMO it's...Performance Art. ALL of gubmint -- especially at this point / 2023.
(It doesn't mean principled positions and policy support don't exist; its just means they exist in a MUCH too tiny DC bubble)

I think the investigating committee should be made up of non-government employees. Each state could send 1 US, non-government related citizen to act as a grand jury.

I agree with you for the most part
Long term this is all a joke because it's not politically feasible for hard-nosed fiscal conservatives to really use the debt ceiling
Hell, the MAGA faction and base could not give a single frick about fiscal conservativism at the end of the day anyway. They just pretend to care selectively so they can use it to get mad at the icky GOPe types. Look at how Trump blew out the spending and his general platform in his SOTU speeches.

Theatre > Charades
All we seem to have seen lately has been charades - most of it all behind closed doors.
ACTUAL THEATRE on the House Floor seems at least a small positive step in the right direction at this point.
