Original Switch was probably generously underpriced by about $50 coming off the Wii-U failure. Nintendo needed a spark and it paid off. They've earned the capital to be greedy this go around.

There are little to no margins on game consoles in retail sales. The margins are on the games played on the consoles.

Because they’ve already been built.
Tariff effects won’t be felt until 6 - 9 months.

A couple days ago, a lot of you were “I just can’t imagine a grown man being bothered by this” “frick Nintendo” and so much more.
Now? Rock on Nintendo!

How to avoid tariffs. Say you’re Walmart. You set up a buying operation with Chyna manufacturer. Chyna sells you the Nintendo for $.02. You pay a tariff on $.02. Nothing of consequence since you’ll sell it for $400. Then Chyna has in their contract to do business with them and pay a high management fee to them at a certain percent that makes up the difference in what you would normally charge.
The seller normally declares the value on the goods that are tariffed.

Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser has emphasized that the newly announced tariffs were not factored into the console’s U.S. price, as the decision had been made prior to the administration’s announcement. Instead, he attributed the higher price tag to the Switch 2’s enhanced features and technological upgrades.
In other words, “the price of the switch 2 & its games are already that high, before we’ve even added in the tariffs.”
So it will be $560 switch 2 with $100 games unless the tariffs are dropped.

The original Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017 for a suggested retail price of $299.99
It was $300 almost 10 years ago... With the advances in technology, and inflation over the last few years, it's not that bad of an increase.
Look at the original Nintendo at 199 dollars in 1985 dollars.
Adjusted for inflation, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which launched in 1985 for $199.99, would cost around $550 to $576 in today's money.
