Some jackhole actually started mess about the name "Ragin Cajuns" a while back. People kept telling him to pound sand.
The fraudsters at KPEL radio had some race hucksters on yesterday decrying the name, it's coming.

UNO isn’t in the LSU system anymore - LSU was finally able to get rid of its red-headed step child in 2011 (Now if the Tulane/Loyola crowd could rid of UNO and SUNO completely- then there may be peace in NOLA)
Why dissolve it into Nicholls? I started off at Nicholls and graduated from UNO - two totally different schools - different caliber of student at each one

Better question, will the name of the university stand? Francis T Nicholls was a brigadier general in the confederate army
Nicholls joined the Confederate Army in 1861 as a captain in the 8th Louisiana Infantry Regiment and participated in the First Battle of Bull Run and in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign in Virginia, where he lost his left arm. In July 1862 he became colonel of the just formed 15th Louisiana Infantry. On October 14, 1862, Nicholls was promoted to the rank of brigadier general and given command of a brigade of Louisiana infantry. During the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, in May 1863, a shell ripped off Nicholls' left foot. According to James Whitcomb Brougher, Sr., in Life and Laughter, (p. 89) he lost an eye at Richmond.
Sounds like the guy suffered greatly for his part in the war. In addition, he did a lot of good after the war, and for the remainder of his life. This matters not to the mob though.
Sadly, the name probably will be changed.

Our administration better not cave to such stupidity.
Probably the best thing our athletic department has had going for itself in recent year is, no matter how one of our teams was when on ESPN2 or other broader networks, the announcers seemed to like "Ragin Cajuns".

"Ragin Cajuns"

Those clever Lafayette Frenches got ahead of the Karen(s) on this one, they made it a spicy hot pepper , and got a Tabasco hot sauce association boast for free... hot = raging...get it. I haven't seen a lot of tension in Lafayette, I'm sure there will be a fuss of some sort, vandalism, spray paint but our police know the city has their backs and appreciates the hardworking professionals we pay to maintain the peace.
[I suspect the widespread 2nd amendment worship in the region and its of gun comfortable citizens in the area has a calming effect too.]
