I think they have an updated mascot, kind of like Aunt Jemima Pancake Syrup lady, he got an upgrade but the school itself is named after a Confederate...I would say it's name can't possibly stand, but they got away with "Harvard" on the bayou for over 40yrs tee shirts and all, before they got a cease and desist order, so they seem to exist in weird political blind spot.

It's still Nichols right though? Is the team the "Colonels" or the "Bisons"

Latest I've heard, is the president changed the names of the buildings and streets passing through campus without discussing with anyone.

Burning the plantations next?

To start it's Nicholls and it's Thibodaux. Also mascot was changed back in 2009 when I was there. The N with the sword was changed in 2005. Original sword had a tassel on the end of it. The new one does not. They did remove Beauregard from one building. If you look at a campus map some buildings dont have the building named. It states "Science and Technology building."

Proactive soy-leadership.

I hope the few plantation homes that survived have their insurance policies fully paid.

My high school (private school) was the colonels.

Rebels, colonels, Raiders, Patriots were all popular MPSA mascots. Rebels by far the most common. Carroll academy was in our conference and they were the rebels, and also the school was funded by the council of conservative citizens which is a direct descendent of the white citizens council of the 50s-60s

There was a push in the late 90s to change to the "nutria". Students also complained that the impaled N logo was a symbol of coded racism. The university did a good job, in my opinion, of hearing this stuff out without making any concessions.

Things are different now though.

Eta: If the heat gets turned up, maybe this is an opportunity to dissolve UNO into Nicholls, rebrand, and eliminate a non essential commuter school in the LSU system. Nicholls has room to grow.

Better question, will the name of the university stand? Francis T Nicholls was a brigadier general in the confederate army.

Also an American attorney, politician, judge, two terms as the 28th Governor of Louisiana, first from 1876 to 1880 and then from 1888 to 1892.

No the new mascot looks like a 1930's communist poster. So it should be ok.

While we are on famous Louisianania from bayou country, will ED White keep its name. I know ED White was a US Supreme Court Chief Justice, but he also served in the confederate army or had ties to it, and served the court when it issued opinions such as Plessy vs. Ferguson and other opinions that disenfranchised minority voters.
