Can my children be friends with white people?

quote:

I will teach them to be cautious, I will teach them suspicion, and I will teach them distrust. Much sooner than I thought I would, I will have to discuss with my boys whether they can truly be friends with white people.

This caught me eye as well

quote:

America is transfixed on the opioid epidemic among white Americans (who often get hooked after being overprescribed painkillers — while studies show that doctors underprescribe pain medication for African-Americans).

Wtf?

Kid should be fine. 85% of interracial crime is black on white. His friends have more to worry about than he does.

We obviously need an Affirmative Action quota for black opioid addicts....

I just saw that article. Holy shite I can't believe NYT went there so brazenly, op ed piece or not.

This shite is absolutely unacceptable for any publication to run and expect to be taken seriously.

Lots of folks take it as a gospel-cum-publication, and there's really not many ways to convince them that the op-eds aren't batshit insane.

Yup. I mean they can put the disclaimer "doesn't necessarily reflect the views of the NYT" all they want, but it's under their banner and the headline is tied to their name.

I just don't get how their editors thought this was a good idea in any way, shape, or form.

Because no one in their intellectual circle bats an eye at such viewpoints, or, at the very least, no one has the balls to say it's stupid because they fear ostracization.

That latter part of your post is key. There have to be folks up there (I hope?) that think shite like this is is a bridge too far. Several bridges, in fact.

But the minute one of them pipes up with "guys, maaaaaybe this could be seen as a little too much?" BOOM. Racist brand. Career advancement hopes lost. The end.

This was the line that pissed me off:

quote:

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous dream of black and white children holding hands was a dream precisely because he realized that in Alabama, conditions of dominance made real friendship between white and black people impossible.

Yeah, what the frick are you talking about when he said this:

quote:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

I can say reasonably confidently that MLK would call you a racist twat. GFY.

Holy shite, I must have passed over that.

I guess the black friends I have are just scared to drop me because I'm a big ol powerful cracker who shitlords over them, not because we enjoy each others' company.

White friends don't ask to borrow money. And they occasionally cop for the whole bar tab.

Also useful at a traffic stop.

I doubt it, look at MLK’s close circle of friends, John Lewis, the Rev. Jackson, Just as JFK’s legacy was sealed by assanation so was MLK, let him live 30 more years i have little doubt the content of character thought process would have become more or less what modern activists look for now any racial slight they can find or often fabricate.

Yeah, snakes surrounded MLK, but he didn’t do the Identity Politics they did. He saw Jim Crow laws as evil (and rightly so), so he called them out on the bullshite. He hasn’t done anywhere close to the shite Jackson or Malcolm X have done.

And he may have changed, but you’re just talking hypotheticals here.

It's because the blacks usually turn around and sell the meds to the aforementioned white people addicted to opioids

The part about teaching your kids you cant be friends with white people is unequivocally insane. Renders any other points made impossible to digest.
