Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration has launched a new, privately funded program to provide monthly cash payments to a small group of New Orleans teenagers and young adults, part of a national pilot aimed at building a case for a guaranteed income.

The program selected 125 residents ages 16 to 24, and at the end of April began paying each $350 per month for 10 months. Cantrell said the program is aimed at getting "much-needed, unrestricted cash in people’s pockets at a time where we know our people need it the most.”

Program participants were randomly selected by the Center for Guaranteed Income Research at the University of Pennsylvania, from lists submitted by 10 community organizations that were asked to identify young people who are not in school and not employed, administration officials said.

I have to think her definition here doesn’t include people of all races.

Hmmmmm….. I wonder what the 16-24 age people selected would spend this money on?

Well then it can be 1,000 a week. Don’t care. If they wanna piss money away… they are overly free to do so.

This is dumb, really dumb. Give them training, or work experience so they can earn $5 more dollars an hour…if you’re 40 hrs a week that’s $800 a month forever…until they make even more. Na frick that, just give them barely anything…

Shouldn’t be administered, sponsored or associated with govt employees during their workday.

They should move to Cali where the pilot program is $1000 month for 1 year.

The Big Easy trying to compete in the money realm and the city has never had money.

I do agree with this. That “privately funded program” should set up their own means of distribution.

They could be spending their time, money, and resources fixing and solving problems, but this is what we get. Im sure 10 people sat in a meeting 3-4 hours a day for a week or 2 just to come up with this shite.

A lot people just need a little bit of help in order to get ahead. It was amazing how much the stimulus of 1200 dollars helped people in such huge ways. They were able to get reliable transportation, get clothes for a new job, etc etc.

I hope Penn has good tracking measures in place. This is not going to go well.

Well, by my calculations that’s $437,500 of completely wasted money.

Considering it would have been spent on liberal causes like getting out the dead vote or funding a BLM Riot, I endorse this whole heartily!
