Having grown up in South Louisiana I have spent a lot of time in New Orleans. I lived there for several years. I still love it, and do enjoy visiting.

Perhaps it is because I was younger then, but during the 90s/early 2000s it did not seem to be as off the rails as it is currently. The infrastructure, the crime and the poverty seem rampant to me. There’s a tent city under the interstate in downtown NOLA, that I don’t recall being there till recently, for example.

What do y’all consider the cause? And more significantly, is there a solution?

Cause: Donald Trump. Solution: impeachment (it was her turn).

It’s all Trump’s fault.

Seriously, the biggest problem with New Orleans is the people who live there. They voted for corruption time and time again.

You do remember a thing called Hurricane Katrina right?

+ it’s all TRUMP’s fault because Obama was an amazing President.

Shrinking tax base + increased cost of living = class warfare.

Class warfare in a racially diverse area will always be dictated by the loudmouth pandering frauds that are drawn like flies to honey to local politics.

Was there this weekend with the fam. Had a great time and didn’t die!! Parts of the city you speak of are common in other big cities. Guess what else they have in common?

You were younger then. I lived there around the same time and never recall Nola being anything but off the rails. It was a fun place, but I knew I had to gtfo of Nola and La. Nola is just La on steroids - corruption and people who care more about having a good time than good governance or their careers.

Crime was worse in the early to mid 1990s. It seems though, it has migrated to the French quarter more the last decade. Some areas like Bywater have improved considerably but I still wouldn't buy there because as shite hole is just across St. Claude.

We are moving out. The August 5th flood was the last straw as we were caught in it. A year later, we finally have our ducks lined up. To no end, it pisses us off when one of our friends talks about the culture and how great the city is. Crime, schools, roads, beyond inept S&W Board...We were lucky to save our vehicles this last time around. We aren't giving the city a second crack at it. 7 years of memories, but it is time to move. We will still be in the area, just reducing the taxes we give to it.
