Given the context of the other text to his half-sister where he was bitching about Pop taking half his salary implies to me that Joe pushed/groomed 'lil Hunter to be his international extortion/QPQ bagboy.

Look, I agree with that. If a Trump kid did 1/10th of what Hunter did, even just the benders, it would be a story of how the kid is compromised and jeopardizing national security. You're hitting the right points. I think it's going to be crystal clear that Joe essentially pimped out Hunter to be the family money maker with other countries and their corporations. And, that's a quid pro quo.

Whether one sees Joe as a loving father, Joe is indulgant and it appeared he will do anything for his son who is compromised in who knows how many ways.

If he was in control of his behavior, I’d agree, but hardcore addicts often aren’t. If he hits the pipe thinking “Jesus, just one time, I need it with this fricked up shite”, there’s no telling what he’ll do. I’d put the chances of him going on one hell of a bender before the end of the year at 60%.
