This article is from Nov 29, 2020.
I would imagine it’s much worse now.

NBC News

The excitement
quote:

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said New Mexico, notoriously poor and almost last in state education rankings, would be the first state to take the step, thanks to a blue wave that swept the state in 2018, when Democrats elected Lujan Grisham after eight years of a Republican governor, flipped the state's sole Republican seat in Congress from red to blue and strengthened majorities in the state Legislature.

Then reality
quote:

But the plan, to be funded by revenue earned from fracking in the Permian Basin, never materialized. Grisham faced opposition in the Legislature, even from members of her own party, and from some college presidents skeptical about how much it would help low-income students.

Well they should not have wanted to fund their project with the evil oil... did they not know that oil is “Holy Water” to a Dem?

As someone who lives in NM, Governor Lujan-Grisham popularity seems to be on the fence.

WTF is tops?
TOPS is a Louisiana program that covers tuition to LA public universities if you meet the requirements. Good program but they need to make the requirements to earn it tougher. There’s different award tiers but the lowest one only requires a 2.5 GPA and a 20 on ACT

ETA: and I wish they’d add a post-graduation residency requirement so LA taxpayers get some sort of return on investment instead of paying for college education for someone who is going to move to Texas as soon as they finish school.

Gotchya. I live in AL so I wasn’t familiar we out that acronym.

I’m not at all opposed to needy kids getting a leg up.

I am however opposed to schools becoming indoctrination centers for leftist religion.

Maybe these kids should be steered towards trade/tech schools?

This is the biggest failing of the US education system.

A university degree should imply that you have a higher than average capacity for reasoning and how it is applied to a specific field.

Folks with average intelligence should be steered toward a vocation.

Would a 110 IQ person be professionally better off competing with other individuals in the 95-110 IQ range, or competing with individuals in the 115+ IQ range?

The irony with Tops being explained to someone in NM concerning how to pay for college now that fracking is going bye bye . TOPS in Louisiana was set up by Patrick Taylor a oilman . He put a fortune in trust to help underprivileged kids make a run in getting ahead in life . Louisiana government phucked it up . So that big bad oil company is so disastrous to a state . Only a Democrat halfwit can save us all
