It should be obvious what the play is. GOP passes a series of anti abortion laws in Alabama (where there’s a blue senate seat up for grabs next year), Georgia (where Abrams lost narrowly and stands to become more popular in the near future), and Ohio (swing state extraordinaire), forcing the abortion issue to the forefront in the 2020 election. All these laws will be shot down by SCOTUS if not before, and GOP knows that, but not before Dems will have to shout at the top of their lungs their pro-choice stance, enabling the GOP to play the “babykiller” card during the 2020 election, leading to Republican victories in the three aforementioned states and beyond.
