Popularity doesn't pay the bills. The NBA has grown in popularity even here in the US while its TV ratings have declined the last several years. This is what you get when you design yourself to be appealing to a generation whose awareness is a mile wide with an inch of depth. It's a retarded business model.
The NBA needs a large, growing and "spending" fanbase in the US, and it's going in the wrong direction.
