Interactive Vote Breakdown
Anyone who lives near this area can tell you that the local kids park (dragon park) smells like pot and filled with dirty hippy hipster judgemental vegan moms with kids who will chew you out for throwing away a plastic bottle or using throwaway diapers on your infant.
i went to a halloween party there last year for our lesbian couple friends and wore a trump mask. i have never heard such vile language from strangers.

Areas closest to downtown that are attracting many young professionals and Millennials— trendy, progressive-leaning neighborhoods like East Nashville, Germantown, 12South and Belmont-Hillsboro — voted for the transit plan, in some cases overwhelmingly. But it accounted for only five of 35 Metro Council districts.

The referendum got crushed in Bellevue, losing the Gower Elementary School voting precinct, for example, 75 percent to 25 percent. The same was true for Antioch, losing the Antioch High School voting precinct, for example, 74 percent to 26 percent.
It was a whopping disaster in Joelton, where residents turned out in large numbers and voted down the referendum 89 percent to just 11 percent.
One voting precinct in Goodlettsville voted against the referendum 88 percent to 12 percent. A voting precinct in Whites Creek voted to defeat the referendum 77 percent to 23 percent.

The Cathedral of Praise precinct, one of the largest African-American voting districts, voted against the referendum 75 percent to 25 percent.

One of the top performing boxes for the pro-side was the Eakin Elementary School precinct in Hillsboro Village, where 74 percent of voters cast ballots for the referendum.

Bro, what if you pregame at Edley's, FGL House for dinner/drinks, then close it down at Loser's? You need transit bro.
Everything else is irrelevant.

Nashville is becoming a big city, sooner or later the traffic problems are going to have to be addressed.....and money is going to have to spent or do you want to spend more and more time on the 440 that is already choked?

That’s fair.
But they’re going to have to come up with something better than $5.5B (and it would have been more...a lot more) for some trains. The plan was dumb.
And people may decide that they would rather sit in traffic than spend billions on new transit. It’s up to them.

The proposed rails didn’t help alleviate any traffic on 440. That was the major issue for most. Having a rail down Charlotte with some stops downtown won’t help the stand still traffic on the interstates. The proposed rails were just bus stops we already have available.

Nashville is way behind on addressing the traffic and growth, but I think the overwhelming response from different demographics shows this plan was not the right solution.
Barry's affair and resignation were the death knell, regardless. After that they were going to have to come with something else no matter the quality of the plan, IMO. She was just too crucial of a supporter, and her plan was tainted along with her.

Nashville is such a great up and coming city. I hope this doesn’t set them back any.

the idea that a damn transit project affects the trajectory of a city is a reach, imo.

people are not against improving transit, they are against neverending tax increases.

Why was the proposal so large? Couldn't they have started with a small single line in the most dense section and branch off from there a little at a time?
That's what Houston did. I think that's what Holden tried to do in BR with the streetcar.
Anywhere in the south or mid west, it will take time for the public perception and culture to change when it comes to transit. It won't be an immediate hit that's flush with users and extra cash without dedicated funds. It's best to start small.

Certainly, but the decision would be a stupid one, fortunately in a republic you are allowed to make "stupid" decisions.
I think you are wrong on the plan being dumb. Your biggest problem in the south is that the culture is not necessarily conducive to the idea of mass transit. Your car is your freedom and to an extent an expression of your individuality
