Just get a concealed carry permit. Then when they ask to do a background check, flash the permit and say “already done. Make a copy of this”
And you will not be doing any volunteer work until THEY run THEIR search.

But you get to feel cocky, I guess.

This is a homeschool coop

Kind of a key piece of information that was left out.

Yeah it is. A co-op most often has parents teaching kids, and some in nursery situations with young siblings during co-op. Usually there are strict rules about at least two parents at a time in a given classroom. This is nothing like sending this release to a public or private school parent. This is more like doing a background check on a teacher.

Oh NO!! I can’t further subsidize an entity that is dramatically bloated at the administrative level and just has to travel to vacation spots for conferences?? Such a shameful loss!

Well frick em. I paid enough school taxes in the county while not even having a kid that they can have someone there that’s an employee doing what needs to be done.

I’m sure their little contract kickback to the superintendent company they choose is much better than an FBI ran check. And I’m sure they could explain why.

So sit in and chaperone your drag queen story hour… that ironically doesn’t need a background check to be around kids… or whatever and be happy.

you really blurted that out like it was to get on the list to be ferried out of a disaster area.

Why would you need a background check to attend a field trip with your child?

Fk big brother and those who comply with such encroachments

Because the school will get sued into Oblivion, if it turns out that they allowed a convicted psychokiller to chaperone a field trip.

If you are signing up to volunteer at the school around the kids or participate in a field trip, they require all parents to go through that. That’s been going on for awhile.

Indeed it has, signed a few myself when my kids were in school.

You are saying that you don't actually WANT to chaperone any activities for your kids?

So, it all works out, because that post doesn't make you look unstable ... not at all.

Funny world we live in these days. I chaperoned for both of my sons when they made their 5th grade trip to Space Camp. They are 2 years apart, so this would have been 2007 and 2009 or thereabouts. Involved keeping an eye on 6 or 8 boys, and keeping them quiet in the dorms when it was lights out.

The school principal started teaching there out of college when I was in school there in the 9th grade. He was the assistant coach on the baseball and basketball teams, so by then I had known him for 20+ years. If he would have handed me a background check, I would have told him it was going to look real funny when he had to shite it out in a day or two, and we both would have laughed.

Here is the one from my school district.

I hereby give permission for the Director of Human Resources for the XXXX School District to conduct a records check
with any local police department, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations, or other state criminal records and the Department of
Human Services. I understand that a negative report could be grounds for dismissal as a volunteer with the XXXX Community School
District. I further understand that a felony conviction will generally result in denial of an application to volunteer and that other criminal
records may also be grounds for denial or dismissal of a volunteer.

You should have stayed out of this thread, since you have come to the defense of every instance of drag queen storytime. Should these people have the same background checks?

Yes, if the event is held at a school.

If they are required of parent-volunteers in a school setting, they should be required of all volunteers in the school setting.

Public or Private?

If its a public school draw a laughing face just below the signature line, and send it back, Unsigned

if its private, call around immediately to find open slots at another school. Your school intends on using this info for certain parents at some point. And not in a good way

Right. You just don't agree that mental illness should disqualify a person from influencing children.

The only appropriate initial response:

Followed by parents showing up at the next school board meeting to raise 9 kinds of hell at this attempt at an insane over-reach of authority.

I worried about MY kids. That’s the maximum I’m worried about especially in mid February to April.

I went to school from elementary to high school and NEVER had any parents chaperone. It was all school employees. All the time.

I work with my kids through stuff they don’t understand, I teach them time management to plan their projects, I check up on their stuff, I stay involved in their activities and work.

Am I worried about the kids 10 miles away that the school wants me to help with? Sorry. I have enough on my plate. Put a couple of the “administrative associate to the assistant of the superintendent” folks back on the school level and let the “assistant” get their own coffee and make copies.

And I notice you didn’t touch the drag queen example When you can let a man in a dress entertain and stay with kids, but can’t let somebody with degrees in accounting and a CPA with previous FBI checks around with out them prying in my business…. That’s a disaster of a system.

Because of the lawsuits that would happen if there was an incident on a field trip or at a school event and it was later discovered that a parental volunteer or chaperone that was involved in the incident turned out to have been convicted of a violent crime, sex offense, or drug crimes.

School is just trying to cover their asses so if something ever happened, they could claim in court that they took reasonable steps to ensure the kids were always in safe hands. Might even be a requirement from their insurer that employees and volunteers who have interactions with students have to pass a background check first.

That's crazy. I'm going to be coaching the school soccer team as far as I know and I haven't heard anything about a background check. I am expecting it though before everything is set in stone.
