Adding govt intervention in the markets is stifling. If you could read, this would be very easily verifiable.

China is doomed by their one child policy and central planning (tariffs are central planning) and there is no saving them.

So china makes a product for cheaper and sells it cheaper.
Company goes out of business in the US.
Those jobs are now in china though. Not in the US.
Kind of doesnt work when we have laws that difer from china.

Lol, okay as everything you considered was wrong, starting on the premise that Trump wants these permanent. Negotiating to reduce negative impacts on us currently with pressures is a winning strategy.

He's wrong.
He is only right if the world was a free market.
It's not.
here is a good example of that

As of March 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Argentina is 296,832 Argentine pesos (ARS) per month. This is equivalent to about US\$278.
In the US you are talking about $1,200/month working minimum wage.
or take tariffs. Argentina can say no tariffs. But if china puts tariffs on argentina, then it will cost them more to sell there and tap into that market. So he doesnt have an 8 billion person free market anymore.

We've had some for 6-7 years now. Joe biden loved Trumps tariffs so much that he expanded them.
Worked well, eh?

I'm not sacrificing my quality of life for this future that will never exist and a culture/society that is in a race to the bottom.
Automation and AI will change employment forever soon enough. Yall are chasing ghosts.

If consumers really wanted to do that you wouldn't need tariffs. You can pay more for US made stuff right now, you don't have to wait for government action.
At a certain point when it’s not feasible for the % of population necessary to pay more for “x” domestic goods vs similar cheap goods from foreign shitholes, I’d like government to put its finger on the scale to steer business to the American company. If that means tariff, fine.

Used in specific situations is necessary, like dumping goods into our markets with substandard material or or below market value. Canada for instance has tariff on American dairy at over 200% but not a person in Canada is clamoring because they can’t get American dairy. They understand that their product comes first, Americans with a weak sense of nationalism wants an other nations to have equal footing regardless of their policies towards imports. Canada enjoys knowledge that they have free security from invasions because they know America has their back, Mexico too as America will not accept another world power at our borders. They above any other country should be open to our goods without exacting penalties

Maybe we should bring this up to the person who negotiated the latest trade deal with Canada & Mexico.

DELIVERING ON HIS PROMISE: President Donald J. Trump is replacing the outdated North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Today, President Trump is signing his historic USMCA deal, making good on his promise to deliver fairer and more reciprocal trade for the American people.
USMCA will replace the terrible NAFTA agreement that resulted in the loss of millions of American jobs and devastated communities across our country.
The deal marks a tremendous victory for American workers, farmers, manufacturers, and businesses alike.

If your prediction is as incorrect as your past predictions, then we are all very safe from automation and AI.

Maybe the agreement needs busting all together as it locks in growth for them at the expense of Americans. When you have a bad foundation for anything then building on it just is a waste
Posted on 3/7/25 at 3:15 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
I don’t think you’re going to find many that disagree. The rub is where you find trading partners bending you over, making sure American producers can’t compete in their markets. Then something has to be done, or you are all complicit in the destruction of those American producers.
