I have wracked my brain for any other solution - I see nothing short of hot Rebellion as an alternative

The divide has certainly risen to the level of divorce on irreconcilable differences. However, federal government has grown too big to simply separate based on red vs blue. Most red states rely heavily on money from Washington. What if Cuba wanted Florida? Would the US military step in for a state that left on its own free will. Federal buildings, federal courts, Medicare, Social Security, USPS, federal monies going to education through direct student loans to research dollars to universities. Sounds sweet. Unravelling it is impossible.
