MSM post-debate recaps hint at Biden's "out" for future debates

I left NBC on after the debate and it didn't take more than a few minutes for the leftist political pundits to suggest that team Biden won't gain anything from future debates (because Trump is a bully), and that they saw no reason for him to participate in any more.
Will there be a 2nd and 3rd debate? Or will team Biden use this line to weasel out of 'em?
I don't think Trump will do worse (I think his team will make sure he allows Biden to speak more in the future) and I can't imagine Biden doing any better. Biden isn't magically going to start giving coherent and detailed policy plans. So to me it makes sense that the Dems would prefer tonight to be the last impression people have of Trump. But I also thought that they would weasel out of the debate tonight and was wrong about that.

That's a HORRIBLE look. At that point, he and his campaign are cowards for not agreeing to what every other campaign has done since the debate format began and expecting special treatment that other campaigns didn't get.

They may be tempted, but it would be a huge gamble. Not a good look IMO, but they aren't asking me for advice. Rightly or wrongly, the American people expect their candidates to do this.

You may be right, but he already stood up to him once in their minds
I'd prefer for him to debate - I can just envision a world where they get out of it without much flack
