It was not sold as a tax. You look back. It was sold as a safety net that would be there for people when they were old. Many people in the 1950's, 60's and 70's trusted the government. Had the gov't not taken that 12% every year, people could have put that money in a retirement account themselves. HAD the democrats (LBJ) and later establishment republicans (democrat lites) not stolen from the SS fund, it would be fine

While this isn't 100% true, you're arguing against yourself.

You're arguing that productive young people should be taxed for a system that will be eliminated or completely reformed by the time they are able to claim the entitlement. You can't defend "those that worked for 50-60 years" by fricking over those who are about to work for 50-60 years. By the very structure of your argument you are picking the population you choose to defend at the expense of those outside of the population. This means the underlying rhetoric of your argument loses any value, b/c your actual argument is deciding which population gets to benefit from the entitlement and not anything underlying the entitlement itself.

You're not begging, if you earned something that you were promised. I spent 11 1/2 years in the military. Paid into the GI bill and was promised a certain amount each month for 36 months while attending college full time. Used all of it when I separated to get my degrees. Was I begging for entitlements?
