. However, if you FORCE me to give the gov't 6% of my pay for 50 years and FORCE my employer to give 6% of my pay for 50 years, then you need to make sure I get what is coming to me.
Nothing. That FORCE was stealing from you to pay for others' entitlements.

Afterall, I provided MUCH more to the nation that those teat sucklers on welfare.
I imagine you also provided much more than the tit sucklers on SS/Medicare pain train as well.
It's all the same thing.

So don't take it when its your turn.
I want the program eliminated by the time it would be "my turn".

It's a shitty deal but, I've been paying in for 45 years. I want mine, that's the deal.
Then you're promoting Leftism because it suits you personally in this instance.
Just own it. This is not conservatism in any definition of the term.

Not true.
They weren't promised shite. They paid for an entitlement program and ASSUMED they would have others pay for their entitlements when the time came.
They also didn't have a choice in the matter. The least this fricked up Government can do is to give back some of what was stolen from those that paid in.

quote:Absolutely not. The people at retirement age (aka workers) are the ones that built this nation and made it the greatest nation on earth. Those on SS worked their entire life, otherwise they would not be collecting. Much like your parents worked their lives to provide for you. When they are old, you OWE them and should take care of them.
It's all the same thing.

Once again, most people aren't remotely paying attention to who they will vote in a Primary that is a year away for some of them. Boards like this and Political Twitter are not what most people care about, especially this far out.
DeSantis is going the work right now though. Getting Kim Reynolds to introduce him in Iowa was big yesterday. His massive fundraising edge is also big. Barnstorming and actually connecting personally with voters is big. Developing a solid agenda and talking points that connect with GOP voters is big.
In the meantime Trump is stepping on his dick regularly. He's got Cuomo thanking him for the Covid praise and he just threw probably his most popular appointee from his Admin under the bus for not praising him hard enough. He's barely left MAL in the last 2 months and he is struggling for campaign cash so he's going to have to get creative or self fund soon.
It's a marathon and not a sprint.

You are 100% advocating for the Federal Gov stealing DECADES of money from people. From every working person.

Funny way of saying that I have consistent policy positions and am not a hypocrite
No It's a great way to show you are not a problem solver and can not think outside what somebody tells you.
right
anyone cutting off SS/medicare is committing political suicide. whether we like it or not.

The federal government already stole that money. I'm advocating for the theft to stop. Why aren't you?
Bless your heart.. You are so narrow minded you can't hear or comprehend what was stated.
Let's try this again... The solution can both end it and sustain what was promised.
It's not an either or.

I know his solution....HE DOESN"T HAVE ONE. All he does is give lip service to idiots.
You have proved my point.

The retired folks paid into SS and paid medicare taxes and were promised SS/Medicare when they retired. Those promises need to be honored.
We've all been robbed blind. The sooner we come to this realization, the sooner we can actually fix entitlement spending.
This whole "I paid into it therefore I deserve muh handouts" stance only digs the hole deeper and makes it impossible for the younger generations to make any meaningful changes. It's perverse

Problem is half the electorate completely forgets these issues at the poll and votes with their feelings.

Older millennial that's honestly disgusted at watching all the older conservatives that were harping about SS/Medicare reform 10 years ago suddenly clamoring for "muh government entitlements"

That's how taxes work.
I don't support any of these programs and want them eliminated without assuming I'll get a rebate on any of the taxes I already paid.
That's called consistency.

With what funding?
People who are starting to receive SS/Medicare this year may be on it for 40-50 years. Each year more people with 40-50 year expectations will join the rolls. How do you propose we pay for that going forward without taxing current workers?
Posted on 5/31/23 at 9:41 am to tivey6301
I believe we all know that these promises won't be kept for a lot of us.
