libertarians want govt out of education and the everyday life of individual citizens. Am I missing something?? Has the libertarian party been hijacked as the Tea Party was by neoconservatives?? Maybe they are being tricked into settling for a “compromises” between a free society and one that is centrally managed? Idk.
I can understand how someone can come to the conclusion that government mismanages profits. However, I trust my national government a little more than private are entities.
A government can always have its makeup changed by the people. A private business can not. Regardless of where you stood during the Net Neutrality debate, the fact is that nobody could vote for the officials with the power to abolish it. That's just one example.
Liberatarian ideas are mostly applicable in larger cities (mostly ran by Democrats). You have multiple options to stop supporting xyz businesses or support other initiatives with crowd funding. The issue is when you hit rural areas with few to no options.
I'm not trying to convince you or any conservative to switch sides. I will ask what alternatives do we have regarding k-12 education. Should we just give up? I think we need to bring back vocational classes.

Public schools should remain in the hands of the public, period, via locally elected school boards. Private should remain free of gov interference.
I went to a very mediocre public school. And the region I lived in had very few options for private school (one Christian academy that didnt go up to high school/ though that may have changed).

My brother who attended the mediocre public school has done better than all of us who attended the catholic schools.
I've done better than some people who went to private school, so I'm not saying that you cant succeed in spite of that. I personally think major/trade choice and post secondary institution choice has a more prominent role to play. The top one being personal Ambition
I'm just saying that choice may be better in some circumstances.

And what I am saying is “choice”( govt funded choice) is about equalizing and controlling outcomes for the common good. Social equity and economic equality disguised as “choice”.i wish more Rs woukd understand this.
Any choice at all is better than the current system.

This compromise you speak of, or rather the end game, will be that the state will give you your $$$ but you’ll do exactly what they say.
If the government still controls it, then it isn't what I'm advocating for.

State control over every single child and school when it comes to education.
That's what we have now. You're basically arguing not to try anything different so we can keep the system you're arguing against.

What I am saying is that “school choice” is not a free market alternative to public system because the “choice” model is completely reliant on public dollars. It will never function as a true, free market education system because of this fact. This is where the confusion lies with Rs.
And this is the difference between Republicans and conservatives. Republicans don't actually want to cut government spending... they just want to control where it goes.

And conservatives believe in personal responsibility and family units more than government dependence

Vouchers only work if there is private school capacity.
If school population drops then school consolidation is logical. The incompetence displayed by the school district in not planning for this is shameful.

Yup. Dems and repubs both love the government titty. Conservatives don't want it around at all.
