He’s just gonna continue to tell you you’re wrong and spit out some made up shite and act like it’s straight out of Jesus’ thesis on the exact subject.

Me too, and I think they're trying, but I think the reality of the situation is that we're stuck with most of them.

Because virtually no additional illegals are coming in and we’re going to be adding jobs.

Today. What do you think is going to happen the next Democratic POTUS is elected?

quote:

What all the data has shown however is that as wage costs go up due to onshoring some of those costs are absorbed by the businesses and not all go to the consumer.

Link? Because all the data I have seen about what has already happened is that over 90% of the costs have been passed on to consumers.

And here's the bigger problem with this "the company will absorb it" thinking: you can't take water out of one end of the pool. It's impossible. So the company WILL pass on the loss (and it is a loss) in some way, even if it "absorbs it." That way may not be higher prices. It might be freezing wages or promotions. It might be canceling plans to expand. it might be taking less in profits, which lowers the value of the company's stock (which then affects investors and shareholders). It might be laying workers off.

Honestly, in a re-shoring situation the most likely scenario is passing along costs in prices. Either that or shrinking operations. Because the company is already going to be spending the money on higher wages and re-location expenses, so it can't adapt by way of some of those other options.

But thinking that you can cost a company significantly more money and it somehow magically won't have any effect on anything is just fantastic thinking. It's absurd.

quote:

The Trump tariffs are protectionist but there’s no wealth redistribution going on.

That's exactly what it is. It's the exact same thing as the ACA. The government artificially causes higher prices (or some other adaptation as posted above), which affect all Americans. And they do so so that a few Americans can make higher wages.

I checked with AI just to get some kind of estimate of how many jobs we could possibly be talking about. What's the best case scenario if every product made by every American company was made here instead of overseas. It estimated somewhere between 1-3 million jobs. And it specified that that was a generous estimate.

So even if we recaptured every single job possible and your theory that every person currently on assistance went to work, and even if I concede the highest possible estimate that I got, we're talking about 3% of the number of people who receive some kind of government assistance.

Plus, this:
quote:

If anything we will be forcing more people to actually work which means they won’t be receiving federal or state benefits which would mean LESS wealth redistribution.

is a non-sequitur. Just because there are (a few more) jobs available, that has nothing to do with "forcing people to actually work." Those are two different things. We could do that without tariffs. Right now. But it would require Congress to start kicking people off welfare rolls...what do you think the likelihood of that is?

Thinking that just because a few more decent paying jobs come into the country, that means that people will be automatically "forced to work" might be the most fantastic piece of magical thinking in this whole discussion.

quote:

If they’re pushed back into the workforce

Who is going to push them back into the workforce? And why do we need tariffs to do that?

Just announced increased tariffs on European cars and trucks to 25% The tariffs are extremely unpopular, and he decides to go back to them.

Who is buying a European car now, aren’t most of them assembled in the United States like Mercedes in Alabama and BMW in South Carolina?

Anyone buying straight European cars are the wealthy uber liberal establishment types that wouldn’t vote for Trump even if their wealth depended on it.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. The only downside of it is that when I am pulling a trailer I actually have to drive because FSD (autopilot) doesn't work while pulling a trailer.
