only 2 black members in the Mississippi Senate

Horrifying if true, as it's so out of proportion with the population of Mississippi which is about 35% black. Examples such as this would seem to necessitate passage of the For The People John Lewis voting rights act.

Well, it's not true. We have 13 including the guy from my district here in MS, so no we don't need passage of the For The Cheaters John Lewis voting rights act.

I live in North Ms. and have been keeping an eye on things this political year because several things affect me. The biggest is the income tax. Secondly, my wife is a an elementary school teacher so I’m watching all of the education bills closer than I have in the past especially teacher pay raise. In my opinion, McLendon(bill author) did not present it very well. I do not think he was ready for the backlash that it caused. I also did not expect it either. I thought it would pass fairly easy, because it says NOONE can be told they are inferior no matter what the reason is.Senator McDaniel even tried to coach him through an explanation to help better provide information. McDaniel also had a bill banning CRT and I feel he would have taken questions better.

All 14 black Democrat lawmakers in Mississippi Senate WALK OUT in protest over bill to ban teaching that 'any race is superior or inferior' and curb critical race theory in schools

quote:

All 14 black lawmakers in the Mississippi state Senate walked out in protest of a proposed bill that bans teaching 'that any race is superior or inferior' Friday

Regardless, Senate Bill 2113 passed 32-2, with just two white Democratic senators voting nay Democratic lawmakers questioned whether Mississippi schools actually taught Critical Race Theory, and called the legislation 'demeaning' and 'unnecessary'

Republican State Senator Michael McLendon said that he had not heard of any schools teaching CRT, but said that many of his constituents were concerned

Democrats also argued that portions of Mississippi's history could not be taught if the 'vague' bill passed, and that the 'systemic racism' taught in CRT is fact

But McLendon asserted that bill 'is not changing anything about our past' 'All this bill says is that no child shall be told they're superior or inferior to one another,'

McLendon said Mississippi is the latest state to take on CRT, and Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Florida, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Tennessee have already banned the theory
