Reeves is issuing an executive order to delay in-person learning for students in 7-12th grade in schools in hot spots. That includes: Bolivar, Coahoma, Forrest, George, Hinds, Panola, Sunflower, and Washington counties.

Who does this help exactly and what does this solve? It doesn't placate those who want a delayed start, and it doesn't placate those who want to go traditional. Instead, it needlessly complicates a complicated situation even more. Now you have multiple schools--indeed, siblings even--in the same district running on different academic calendars. Out of all the decisions that could have been made, this one truly is a head scratcher.

I foresee school districts having to cleaning up after Reeves by delaying the start for all grades.

The explanation I heard last week is that high school students are relatively safe b/c they are old enough to have enough sense to social distance (I don't believe that, but that's what was said.)

Elementary students are safe b/c they don't transmit the virus easily.

Junior high age students are the dangerous ones.

I guess Reeves—like me—remembers high school and how little sense and good judgement we exhibited back then.

Stupidity isn’t reserved for kids. I went to our condo this weekend and people wouldn’t wear a mask in the elevator, but put them on when they exited into the lobby.

It makes scientific sense. Younger kids can’t really transmit the disease. It is thought age 12 and above can transmit Covid similar to adults, but don’t have severe symptoms or are asymptomatic.

That said, open all schools.

I’m all for school choice, private schools, etc but I don’t see how this doesn’t pertain to private schools in those counties like he said it doesn’t. How can he regulate other businesses but not a private school?

He's more popular than Jacktown Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. He just closed all bars in Jacktown.
