Mississippi lawmakers who want to remove the Confederate battle emblem from the state's flag appear to have enough votes in the state Legislature to make the change, a senior state lawmaker said Friday.
State Rep. Robert Johnson III, the Democratic leader of the state House of Representatives, told NBC News that all the needed votes “appear to be there."

Guess the people get no say.

Now the Mississippi State running back can get his 4 carries for the year in the Mike Leach offense.

A dirt bag is killed by a dirt bag and a legislature 2000 miles away becomes retarded.

Honk honk

The melt would be amazing if they voted to keep it but I think this is finally the curtain call for the ol girl, she lasted 126 years.

I guess that the Statewide flag vote less than 20 years ago doesn't mean anything?

Do we keep voting until we get the "right/correct" outcome????? I actually like the Stennis; oh I mean Hospitality flag. But at the same time, the State voted less than 20 years ago to keep the existing flag and I'm of the opinion not to give a Moose a muffin.

Some here have said its irrelevant despite it being less than a generation ago.

I like the flag appearance wise but its going to come down sometime regardless. Doubt it survives this.

I agree. Not sure how they are proposing the removal/change but I assume it is a legislature vote to remove and change with a citizen vote to pick a new one from about 4 alternates. Don't need the citizens actually voting to try and keep the current one.

I think the legislature is just doing it all. The Stennis flag is the likely replacement.

Well I mean we aren’t a democracy, so no, not directly.

Get your names correct. The creator of the flag from 6 years ago renamed it the Hospitality flag this week because her grand dad was a segregationist and she doesn't want the late great Senator's name to detract from the flag.

Not sure how Paul B Johnson State Park or Ross Barnett Reservoir have escaped scrutiny yet along with the various town names such as Vardaman.

The people have no say?

They elected these officials, did they not?

The people got no say in 1894 when the ugliest flag in the USA was shoved down our throats by the legislature. Only right that they fix what they created.

The people elected the officials yes.

Should we put out a statewide vote about whether we should pay taxes or not? After all we didn't get a "say" about that either.

Bend to the extortion of the mob. That will work. They will never demand anything else.
