I almost wrote potayto vs potahto.
The left uses language as a weapon. We need to be precise.
Hostages allows them to push back just using the dictionary.
I hate giving the left any means of twisting words.

Pence deserves the Medal of Honor and I can't stand his politics.

Perhaps. They just as often use imprecision to their advantage, though. I don't know that I'm advocating that, but it's undeniably part of how they push forward.
Maybe there's something to be said to Gumbo's point, but I don't see how calling them "political prisoners" would serve to highlight the issue less than calling them "hostages" in this scenario.

I don't have any issue with Trump's language here and I think Pence is lame for whining about it
I do think Pence has a legit reason to be sour with Trump/Jan 6 crowd, however.

I've learned from professional persuader Scott Adams that vibe trumps narrative and narrative trumps facts.
Conservatives love to argue with facts. In a mathematical model facts win. In the media environment narrative can overcome facts. Vibe is emotional and impacts culture and can overcome facts and narrative.
The word "hostage" conjures up more emotion that potentially leads to vibe. The immediate emotion is that "hostages" generate is the need to be freed.
As Scott Adams would say "hostages" is a kill shot.

I always enjoy this approach
‘We have 5000 political prisoners’
‘No!! We only have 916’

The January 6th defendants are political prisoners.

Hostages don’t go through a judicial process.
That’s how I’d respond if I was one of the tboy klan.

They are mad he is beating them at their own game. Beating them bad too.

But, they are more like political prisoners than hostages.
A distinction without a difference.

It's an accurate use of the term.
