434 House Members; 1 Democrat vacancy.
If all 434 show up, he needs 218 votes.
He must pick off 2 of 6 HARD NOs below.

NOW: a senior dem member has shared that moderate Rs have reached out suggesting that if McCarthy wins by making these Freedom Caucus concessions, some moderates will work with Dems to vote down that rules package.

So the Six could also join the Dems in shooting down any rules package that doesn’t make the concessions that they want, right? So, in theory, they still have the leverage even if MCCarthy wins?

Called this earlier this week - a 'midnight' vote with Dems clinching this for McCarthy. Dems are the only ones that have not complained about the prospect of him as Speaker.
Would not surprise me if they also take a long weekend.
I commented earlier today about Pelosi stammering her way through basic math, while watching CSPAN. She was explaining the math to other Dems in the chamber.
I don't think likely Republican voters are going to go for this at all. I expect Gaetz and others to leave the party, start a new one, and once McCarthy does McCarthy things, look for Trump to join them. There will be a tidal wave of support and money that goes with this new party. I think the GOP is dead by 2024.
If this midnight vote thing actually takes place, we basically have one party and about 100 million independents from now till 2024.
I'll be interested to hear about how Hannity tells his audience that colluding with the Dems had to be done for national security, to keep planes in the air, for grandma's social security check and so forth.

The 20 already won. He was embarrassed and they showed that despite the election results the MAGA wing of the party isn’t going anywhere.

I get what you saying i was hoping the Republicans would stick together but that wont happen now or in 2 years.
