There are definitely BP agents on the take. But there are more Customs folks on the take than anyone.

Honestly, I can't blame them. This is the reason I'd never get involved with the DEA, BP, or any line of work that encounters cartels. If a cartel agent offers to either kill me or pay me, the money is going to sound a lot better. 'Cause if cartels kill you, they're gonna make you pay. They'll probably kill you in the most horrific way imaginable, just after forcing you to watch your family members go through the same thing. frick those dudes.

Care to share your analysis?

And this is why the wall won't work.

A wall will certainly make it easier to patrol some areas.

You know there are already large sections of wall in areas of the border, don't you? And there have been for a very long time. All Trump is doing is filling in some of the long gaps where there are currently just fences or surveillance cameras.

ETA - There's already 650 miles of barrier. Trump plans to add 350 miles to it.

That's obviously a reflection of your weak mental faculties.

But it's still uneccessary. Numbers of people jumping the border are already way down and it's a trend that's likely to continue.

Jumping the border isn't the most prevelant method of becoming an illegal in America.

Besides, increasing security in one area creates a balloon effect, they simply move to other areas to cross. But as you said, most of them aren't even crossing the border.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Make Mexico a place worth living in. Start off by cutting the heads off every cartel member out there.

Eh, that just makes the drug trade that much more lucrative. Until Mexico ends their corruption and starts providing for their own, we'll be stuck as their relief valve. We need to bully them economically to get their house in order.

That's the only thing I think that could make long-term changes for both immigration AND cartels.

quote:

Start off by cutting the heads off every cartel member out there.

But how do we do that? Anything short of a full scale invasion is probably not going to do anything. And we've seen with Calderon's drug war, his attempt to attack cartels only resulted in power vaccuums, and eventually led to increased violence. And still the cartels reign.

ETA: not to mention that even if you got rid of all the cartels, the drug market still exists. Someone will eventually step up and take over that role.

The heavy handed approach simply makes smuggling of drugs and people more expensive, therefore attracting more people willing to take the risk.
