Well, you can’t really rely on a Casino to be ethical

I guess this validates the saying you can sue anybody for anything.

They're not suing the victims. They're saying they have no liability in the incident. I'm really curious to see how this one plays out in court.

quote:

The corporate owners of the Mandalay Bay casino filed suit against the victims of last year’s Las Vegas concert mass shooting, claiming it has no liability for the massacre, according to a published report on Monday.

MGM Resorts International went to federal courts in Nevada and California and took on more than 1,000 shooting victims, saying claims against the hotel giant “must be dismissed.”

It’s not unusual for cases to be removed to federal court to avoid biased state judges. It’s also not unusual for a insurance company or the business entity itself to preemptively file suit for a declaration that they aren’t liable for something. They aren’t trying to get money from the victims. They are just forcing the victims to prove MGM is liable or relieve them of defending all the suits by the victims.

Just wondering... In what way would the casino be liable?

Not having read the victims lawsuit, I can only assume that by allowing the shooter to all of the guns and ammo in the room unnoticed.

I guess because the shooters were actually staying in The Four Seasons.

While strange, they filed suit to get a judgment stating there was no liability. They aren't asking for anything from the victims. It's a strange move, but it's not what the headline makes it sound like.

Okay, we're parsing words. Mandalay Bay is not seeking monetary damages from the victims, which is what most people think when somebody sues somebody else. That aside, did MB have any indication this guy was going to snap and start shooting people from their hotel?

I wonder who's side the NRA is on. I mean hotels don't kill people, people in hotels kill people.

Correct but they are trying to find a judge that will side with them.

It reads like they’re seeking more of a declaratory judgement, seeking immunity from liability under a fed terrorism statute.

i think the optics are only bad b/c of biased writers trying to create a story out of a bland procedural-legal action
