Bingo.

And she shouldn't apologize for making a joke about "family", she should apologize for making a racist joke. Funny pictures of the year? Why is that picture funny? Oh I get it now, rich, white, republican has an adopted black kid in his family. Hilarious!

She ran the segment, she knew what the picture was, and she thinks it's funny to mock the Romney family for adopting a black kid.

Because it's not true. She wasn't adopted. Her father is black and her mother is a white mormon.

Was it an off the cuff comment, while playing to her audience...or like Bashir, composed ahead and delivered verbatim.

If the former, and she's sorry, and says so, good enough.

Can't see how funny pictures of the year would be considered off the fricking cuff. No doubt a about it, this was planned.

Another reason MHP mocked this is because the reality flies in the face of the narrative that she and others of her ilk have tried to establish about Romney. In 2012, according to people like her, half the comments Romney made were racist......"Chicago style politics" etc. It all carried a negative connotation according to the MSNBC types.

So, this has to be mocked because, otherwise, people might see it for what it really is. A super rich, white family decides to help another human being by adopting a child. God forbid for these unrepentant racists, a child of color. I mean, it's not like the Romney's were short on biological offspring, either.

But, this action flies in the face of the phony narrative. Thus, the need to mock, marginalize, and deride.

You're right, my bad. She was born biracial into a mormon family.

Does anyone really think the baby was the butt of the jokes? I don't.

She ranks right up there with Olberman with his father dying during the ACA debate.

You somehow think circumstances of her upbringing exonerate her in this instance? Seriously?

I doesn't.
Far from it.

What it actually means is her comments, her pre-planned segment, her encouragement of her guests' hateful "jokes" and quips could not possibly have occurred in a void.

You make an excellent case against her.

Exonerate? No. I don't think she even really did anything wrong (except for the hypothetical hypocrisy [hypo hypo ] of how we think she would be if the situations were reversed).

The bottom line is that it's foolish to pretend like different people can say things that others can't and in different situations. Here's a good read on it that appeared in the Times recently:

quote:

A few summers ago one of my best friends invited me up to what he affectionately called his “white-trash cabin” in the Adirondacks. This was not how I described the outing to my family. Two of my Jewish acquaintances once joked that I’d “make a good Jew.” My retort was not, “Yeah, I certainly am good with money.” Gay men sometimes laughingly refer to one another as “****s.” My wife and her friends sometimes, when having a good time, will refer to one another with the word “bitch.” I am certain that should I decide to join in, I would invite the same hard conversation that would greet me, should I ever call my father Billy.

K so why would it matter if she was biracial and had a Mormon mother?? That should only matter if she was making fun of the baby , right?
