Luttrell grossly over estimated the enemies numbers in that ordeal and grossly under played the strategic error in even being where they were when it went down.

I mean, fog of war is a real thing. Combatants constantly overestimate enemy numbers during fire fights. As for the strategic error, and without having read the article you referenced, I remember reading that Red Wings was shoddily planned from the outset somewhere, I’m not sure if that’s what you’re referring to or if you’re referring to them letting the goat herders go. Or something else.

I know that letting the goat herders go was a massively stupid, deadly decision on the part of Murph. If you didn’t kill em, you gotta either tie em up there or bind their hands and force em up with you to the extraction point so they can’t alert anyone. Letting them go was mind numbingly stupid.

Oh yes. I may have heard snippets of those stories.
In any case, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

The video shows that Chapman was alive in no uncertain terms. He was unconscious and came to and continued to take the fight to the enemy while alone for over an hour. In thigh deep snow he chose to close with and attempt to destroy them instead of hiding out and taking cover. He’s a hero.

Should have been awarded 2 MOHs.
