releasing a statement is great and all but I will hold my praise until we either see the other nations paying up their full responsibilities or see the US leave them hanging.

They actually did start to do this last year - European military spending was up almost 4% in real terms. Mattis really isn't channeling anything different from Robert Gates who, if you remember, gave a pretty stinging rebuke to NATO members when he was on his way out in 2011. I am still not sure just how many people in both the U.S. and in Europe realize just how much of a clusterfrick Libya was from an operational perspective. Quite literally, I don't think the rest of NATO could have actually overthrown Gaddafi if we hadn't been there; that's how bad they were.

I think Mattis is trying to drive them from giving a token 4% increase and actually have them up 40 or 50 or 100% (which is what places like Germany and Canada need to do).

I think Mattis may end up being the best hire Trump has made. I really think Mattis is everything we should stand for.

Equating the hypocrisy of a poster is not the same as equating the performance of two presidents.

Again, my post was about promises that Trump has backed away from. He's never going to fulfil them. Ever.

Also, I'm not an Obama supporter. I think Trump is a liberal con-artist. The sooner that conservatives realise that fact, the better.

Good. An alliance is a lot like a marriage. You can't really expect one spouse to stay fully committed if the other spouse isn't likewise committed.

And for far too long Europe has shown zero commitment. Yeah they talk about how commited they are to NATO, but talk is cheap. The true measure of how serious they are about NATO comes from their actions though. And their actions for the past couple decades has shown they're not nearly as committed as they claim.

So you're saying that Obama supporters don't have the right to hold Trump to his word?

wait Globalists are against a major international military-defense organization?

Some people play chess and think more than one move ahead. Globalist desire a weakened US and their desired method of creating said weakness is through debt and non domestic spending (an empire spread thin).

Mattis is a fricking boss. In my mind he's wearing a cowboy hat and pearl handled pistols to the meeting.

If anything, you'll find people who think the military should scale back out of NATO entirely, or at least remove our bases from there.
Removing the bases makes no sense. Why not just sell them to the host countries?
