Even if two black people were talking. What’s up dawg is different than saying you a bitch arse dawg.

One is saying it towards another person in a hateful manner and is what the left would consider hate speech.

This.

That wasn't a friendly exchange.

Why isn't that hate speech? Because he's black?

Edit: This is why I stopped watching LSU a few years ago. They're all about racial double standards. You know how much larger of a story this would be if a white player said the same thing?

They all know why it’s different, they just really really really want to be able to say the N word and not get in trouble for it. For some of them this is a big issue.

Seems like a reasonable want. Can you think of any other word that due to social pressure, people are not allowed to say at the cost of a job or some other life changing event at the high end of possible consequences?

Shouting fire in a movie theater? Nope. It can be done because we’re smart enough to respond to fire alarms and smoke instead of speech.

Seems to me the goal we should be pursuing is to have a society that’s not as sensitive to slurs. Asians seem to have adapted well, as have Italians. Even recent African migrants can handle slurs. Why can’t so many American born black people? Why are they so sensitive ? Some of their ancestors may have been slaves, but they get triggered by a slur? What’s the advantage of being so soft and sensitive that other migrant groups haven’t seen yet?

Maybe you should realize that what oppresses black Americans is actually ghetto culture. Other ethnic groups embraced a similar culture for generations until they collectively realized it was keeping them down. What’s taking black Americans so long to realize the same thing?

Sure. Call your boss’s wife the C word and see how that goes.

I’d be content with WHITE people shaming our own to stop using that word and if we can’t…we stop allowing those ignorant or racist people a cover by saying “but they get to say it “ as if …for once the system slants against WHITE people and now we concerned about unfair treatment

I don't do double standards. For black people, white people, or any people.

But, please tell me more about black people.

My wife can call herself a bitch…i alluded to it once and well, won’t do that again

Why can she use it as a noun but I can’t?

My wife can rail against my family…i get pissed but i slam my family?

I can call my sister a whore but lemme here you say that?

Tons of similar instances that you can relate but why do otherwise intelligent people refuse to see why it’s different when it’s the N word?

Huh? I can use the same insults that you say to your wife/husband/mom/dad/son/daughter/ etc …say that to them and you won’t care? I mean…that’s weak

Also- do your own research with Black people…sit down and ask one why the N word is offensive for WHITE people to say but not Jay Z etc

Why do I need to do my own research on black people when you, an apparent expert, are right here?

What other nuggets of wisdom do you have for me about these melanin-enhanced individuals?

I don't think anyone here has said a black person cannot call themselves the N word.

quote:

My wife can rail against my family…i get pissed but i slam my family?

Does "rail against" include racial insults? Stay on topic please.

quote:

I can call my sister a whore but lemme here you say that?

Again, not a racial slur. Also, you call your sister a whore in a non joking manner?

quote:

Tons of similar instances that you can relate but why do otherwise intelligent people refuse to see why it’s different when it’s the N word?

Those instances are not similar.

Do you believe hate speech exists and should be punishable by law?

That was the most illuminating part of his whole little spiel there. And he's doubling down on it, too

I had to read that part twice.

Hey, whatever it takes to win an argument on TD I guess.

In fairness, one side is arguing that words are just a sequence of letters and sounds and context doesn’t exist.

Yes / i believe hate speech exists …and hate speech isn’t centered in one race …i know all races can speak hateful of other races.

No, it shouldn’t be punishable by law though - it’s free speech - i believe all ppl no matter their race, should be free to speak ignorantly

I’ll also add…hate crime is dumb too …a crime is a crime and should be punished- it doesn’t make a crime worse because hate was involved

I’m doubling down on how we allow ourselves Liberty to insult ourselves or loved ones but not let outside people say it …the guy i was responding to says he would allow everyone to use the same insults to his loved ones because he doesn’t have double standards
