There has to be 2 Ds vote for the override and I know that 2 Ds co-sponsored the bill......on the other side of the coin Rs will face this same pressure. I'm just saying there are some damn weak people in the Louisiana legislature...some will fold under the pressure
I just can't for the life of me see voting FOR these two bills in session, only to vote No because big bad JBE disagrees with me.
That should show your constituents how spineless you are. I mean, the Ds that voted for the bills knew he was going to veto it anyway, why even get to this point if you're not going to stay consistent.

And they went so far as to co sponsor the concealed carry bill.

I would think less of any legislatures who change their Yay vote, than i do of JBE.
And thats saying a lot.

I don't think the main opposition to the CC bill is the Anti's. I think it's the good'ol'boy network making easy money running the required classes.

Interestingly enough, I have heard this from a couple of former law enforcement officers as well.

Oh im sure you're right. And you would think the folks in that line of work would be the exact people that should support true 2A freedoms

There are dems in safe districts that don't have to worry about this.
Your logic might apply to the independents and Dems in toss up districts. Not sure that will be enough.

It's one thing to know you are allowed to do something even though it's never been done before, it's a whole other thing to actually do it. Once the legislature gets a taste of overriding the Governor it may well change the way politics between the legislature and the Governor work in the state.
This times 100 billion. Excellent point and completely agree.
I think Gov. Edwards grossly underestimated the attitude of the vast majority of people of Louisiana. He also took for granted the massive changes in the legislature; last year was kind of a mulligan with corona shutdown. This year the significant amount of new conservatives paired with several who were re-elected in both chambers are really showing up and finding their way through the political process.

From a numbers perspective,
The override needs 26 senate and 69(or 70) house votes for a successful override
SB118 had 27 in the senate and 73 house.
SB156 had 29 and 78 respectively.
grow some balls and make his happen people.

I have 0% belief that any politician will do the right thing.
Highly likely just means that when we dont do it, dont be mad at me.

This blows my mind. I'd think it's the other way around. The gun bill isn't going to cause any national blowback. The transgender bill whether you're for it or against it seems much more contested and controversial than simply passing constitutional carry.
Agree. I think the national audience would be surprised that constitutional carry didn’t already exist in the sportsman’s paradise.

When I took my class for CC the instructor was more than happy to tell us about the money he was raking in with these classes. He was a STSO deputy as well.

Correct on Senate needing 26 but to be clear...70 is the magic number in the House.

People in this state are so fricking stupid and emotional. One of these is not like the other.
One is a constitutionally-protected right that has been with us since the beginning of the country, the other one just makes sense and deals with entertainment.
Which one do you think is more important that we get right?

All that means is the rinos will vote with the Democrats to sustain the veto. Don't get excited that the Repubs will actually do something.

Ive contacted my representative and Senator theyre all in on both bills. So I reached out to 14 surrounding representatives and senators that have a district that even touch Shreveport with emails and phone calls.
All 6 contacted representatives are on board for the whole package: McCormick, Sebaugh, Pressly, Bagley, Crews, & Horton
None of the 3 Democrats have responded either way but the ones that answered thanked me and took down info: Jenkins, Phelps, Glover
4 Republican Senators: Peacock, Milligan are yes, Bernard and Mills unknown. Had a good talk with the lone Democrat, Tarver, who is deeply troubled about the veto of SB156 and really considering the override. Could be convinced of the constitutional carry bill but I heard "Wild Wild West" so I don't know. Told him I'd send an email listing out why that's not the case and he appreciated it.

On these two issues? That would be a kiss of political death. Only term limited Republicans who had no ambitions for future office would even consider changing their vote.
No, the issue will be democrats and the two independents in the House. It will be very difficult for dems to go against the governor but they only need 2.
Plus, you don't have to vote no...you can just not show up and claim you had other plans. Watch and see how many use that excuse.
