A Northshore lawmaker has proposed a ballot measure that would ask Louisiana voters to decide on legalizing marijuana use for adults – and not just for medical reasons. House Bill 524, sponsored by State Rep. Richard Nelson, R-Mandeville, would put the measure on the Nov. 8, 2022, ballot. It’s one of few bills Nelson filed to address the potential legalization of adult-use marijuana in the state

Nice to see a Republican take control of this issue for once. Definitely good to see

From what I saw on Canal Street last Friday, it would appear to be a that the rest of La. is a little behind the curve.

Have you ever heard anyone dying from a marijuana overdose? Directly or indirectly?

It's just a damn plant and it is not a threat to the pubic like alcohol and cigarettes are which is legal and kills more people indirectly in a single month than marijuana will ever do directly in a single decade.

Remove marijuana from our criminal code, legalize it, and regulate it for responsible consumption by the public after education on the issue.

I find it interesting how this board bashes the loons on the west coast who did this yrs ago, and so many think that this is a good idea. Slippery slope towards being worse off.

It's not hard to pick up weed, but making it legal makes it harder to control with kids.

Weed is more easily available, today, to kids than is legal alcohol..

Maybe we're tired of spending billions and billions of dollars on prosecuting people for smoking a plant that does not kill people like alcohol and cigarettes do.

Billions of dollars with a pretty much static rate in marijuana consumption that has seen little to no change.

Cut our losses and be done with it.

Kids can get weed.

If legal weed is easier for kids to get it means they don’t have to be exposed to a black market.

As with fantasy sports and sports wagering, this means nothing. Fantasy sports is LEGALIZED and yet nobody in the state can play yet.

So like online fantasy football?

They’ll let us vote on it, but not actually implement any real plan of attack.
