And MY story is that I was at a friend house in medical school when I grabbed his glasses off the coffee table as a joke and realized that I couldn't see. I used to ask my best friend what the board said at LSU because I thought the projector was out of focus. I had no idea that I couldn't see. Yet, I made nearly straight A's. Oh yeah, I worked 3 part time jobs at the same time.

Dont disrespect me and my kind just because we were poor Rex. Watch and learn what a motivated person with opportunity can do. It may inspire you….

"I did not like poverty. In fact, I hated it until I began reading those books and realized that I had the power to control my own destiny and did not have to be a victim of circumstances. I know many successful people who grew up in poverty and also came to this realization sometime during their preadolescent years. What happened is that we developed a vision of what our lives could be and began to follow that vision, which required establishing plans and following them. When you have a vision, it is much easier to keep your target in sight and know when you are deviating from the plan." Ben Carson "One Nation"

Good lord...
I don't disrespect you for having been poor, but I think you might have a reading dysfunction unassociated with your eyesight.

Those that are lazy and glutinous do not lead a prosperous life. Your government is trying to take the sting out of bad decisions. I believe that they should feel every bit of it. The system should be there to reward those that are trying to help self. If you don't care about yourself, why should I? I have no sympathy for those that don't care.
Understand now?

Go back to your books my young medical student as you obviously don't understand.
This discussion goes to the heart of why Dr. Ben Carson's beliefs are what this country desperately needs unlike this current administrations "vision."
I pray that there is a system in which your talents can be effectively used rather than bureaucrats dictating your practice. Pay attention because your life depends on it.

In due time we all have to pay for our decisions. Look at the NFL, for instance. 78% of players are bankrupt 3 years out of the league. It catches up to us all whether or not you believe it or not.

No I do understand....that when posters start arguing about "who had it worse growing up" that a thread has probably run its course. And this was a pretty interesting one, too.

Anybody who denies evolution and thinks the Earth is only 6000 years old doesn't have the power of judgment necessary to be a good president.

His qualifications are literally the same as some lesser known politician, doctor or random who has the same beliefs and positions he does. Yet conservatives are so enamored with this guy. Why?
Obama's inexperience was only a small part of his problem...he came in with an agenda to intentionally diminish this country ("transform" in his words), and has succeeded (mostly via executive order) in spite of his ineptness. An inexperienced Ben Carson as President, together with a republican senate (if it happens) and house could at least try to undo the damage that Obama has wrought.

we can make these stinging statements about idiosyncratic issues about any candidate

I don't think this post has run its course, I hope that it is only beginning. I challenge Rex and like minded posters as I believe that their thought process is weak and harmful. As a person that has been through a lot of life lessons (like Dr. Carson), I challenge all of those that try to keep people like me down.
