The idea of Manchin being some sort of moderate is a ploy. I read this that they like to throw Manchin out there so he can bring in some squishy Republicans in the name of bipartisanship. So the original bill may not pass in full, but 90% of it might and they can call it "bi-partisan". This will look better for them instead of passing something so controversial on a split vote.

“The filibuster should be painful, it really should be painful and we've made it more comfortable over the years,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Maybe it has to be more painful.”

But Manchin said Democrats need to meaningfully engage with Republicans before going down that path, which they utilized late last week to pass a $1.9 trillion Covid relief package without a single GOP Senate vote.

Manchin voted for every article of impeachment in both proceedings.

Now, he did vote "Yes" on Kavabaw, but that's about his only saving grace during Trump's first term.

It was 50-48 - if he flipped, I have no doubt Murk would have.

Hell, if Kavabaw goes up in 2020? No way. Probably 55 votes against.

That's how fickle/unreliable the GOPe is.

(I know this is about Manchin, but his holding the line, along with Collins, saved Kavabaw at the end of the day.)

Follow the money. Who does his daughter work for? How much does she make? Another Hunter but maybe without the kinkiness.

Of the $1.2 trillion of the $1.9 trillion that goes overseas, how much will come back to politicians family and friends? Trump was the most honest and transparent president in my lifetime.

Americans are lemmings.

I don't get how WV voted him in, or Montana voted in their (D) senator. Those are deep red states, it makes no sense? Do these voters think it is 80's or 90's where there were actual blue dog Democrats. Manchin will vote whatever Schumer needs him to vote. On non controversial bills or when they don't have the votes, Schumer will let him cross the aisle.

Manchin was a pretty effective governor there and he brings home pork as a Senator so he's built as a rep that sits outside of the party structure. He's also a very good politician, that matters. More importantly, the West Virginia Republican party decided to run a criminal coal baron and a pharma lobbyist against him. So, yeah...

Cassidy is trying to be what Manchin is. Someone who gets press, and their pockets lined because the are ‘needed’ on votes.

It’s a fricking disgrace

Both of those guys should have never won re-election. It’s amazing how Florida has 2 republican senators and is almost a purple state . But West Virginia a sold red state has a democrat senator. Both states need to get good home grown person to win these seats in the next election. These are seats they we have to have . The republican senators from these states would be able to be lock step republicans.
