Very. Long action.
Not something a pro would use.
Well pros do use them. They are not overly common but they are very much a precision tactical weapon and the diverse loadout options make them very handy.
And of course the obvious reason they are common hunting rifles is because of their accuracy. The gun is a military weapon rolled out in WW1 and is still seeing new versions released to this day.
Before you go full retard, the point is not that a 30-06 would only be used by a pro. The point is that 30-06 doesn't tell you anything about the shooter because there are professionals that use it as well as tactical units.

If you are talking about a stationary shot. That isn't always the real world. Wind isnt constant and people dont jus sit perfectly still.

Doorbell cameras are everywhere.
This was my first thought as well. It's Utah. If an investigating officer knocks on a door and asks to see footage because they think the suspect may have passed through the neighborhood, the positive response rate will be near 100%.
This fricker is toast.

30-06. Not a pro hit, someone stole Grandpas hunting rifle to do this.
Have they said it’s a 30-
06 or are you guessing?

Wild this thread is about to turn into a thinly veiled .308 vs 30-06 argument

For a professional shooter, its a valid argument.
But this was some punk kid with grandpas rifle.

Hate to agree with Roger on this board but 30-06 is pretty much in every deer hunters gun cabinet if you’re over the age of 50
He’s not wrong on this

Or it could have been someone with a suppressed accuracy international .308
No one knows

They know who the shooter is at this point. Between US, Israeli, and Plantir technology this guy is cooked. They have his finger print, shoe size, elbow size, palm print, and face. He is going to meet the military first then be turned over to the Feds/Utah.
