re: Libs, progressives, and "above the fray" moderates, a question for you...

When the right elects people that are absolute crazies....you may have a point!
The left has AOC, Ilhan, Maxine, Rashida, Ayanna, Etc...
Who does the right have?
TBH, I think Ted Cruz is probably the most right politician we have, and he is probably the smartest person in either chamber. And even if you disagree with his politics, no one can say he is on the same level as the kooks named above.

Well I start with not saying stupid, inflammatory shite just to get clicks. I value that highly.

Public transportation is fantastic in Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, and DC from my personal experiences.
I'll pick Chicago because I lived there for 20 years.
Crime, cleanliness, and vagrants are a huge problem on the CTA:
quote:
As of April 2026, violent crime on the CTA remains a major concern, with recent data showing a 30% drop in violent crime compared to March 2025, yet public concern persists following high-profile incidents. Safety measures are increasing, including a 75% rise in police presence and a new task force targeting repeat offenders.
And not surprisingly, they are incredibly inept at managing it:
quote:
Based on 2025 and early 2026 reports, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), along with Metra and Pace, faced a severe "fiscal cliff" for the 2026 fiscal year due to the depletion of federal COVID-19 relief funds, with a projected budget shortfall initially estimated as high as $771 million
It's also pretty poorly maintained:
quote:
The CTA faces a significant, long-term deferred maintenance backlog since 2017, leading to aging infrastructure, train derailments, and "ghost trains"
I know public transportation isn't supposed to make money, but facing a fiscal cliff that is impossible to come back from is next level terrible. So while I'll give you that the CTA has good coverage around and across Chicago, I'd hardly consider it something you can hold up as an example of something decades of liberal rule has "succeeded at".

Pick an example from an above the fray "moderate" stronghold.

1. Environment
2. Sound fiscal policy
3. Strong public education
I would be genuinely interested to learn of a place where those 3 things coexist

Well, if you ask the left I'm sure they would emphatically say "Donald Trump" lol.

Bruh, SLC has some of the worst, if not the worst, air quality in tUSA. Many of the mines just north of the lake fail any and all emissions testing and nothing is done.
Other than that, yeah I liked Utah well enough.

That’s because of the geometry of the basin in which it sits. Also, it seems to collect smoke from wildfires all over the west.

They may be right about the need to eliminate health insurance and cut out the middle man entirely.
What Democrat is advocating for that?
All I've ever heard is, "Medicare for all."
That's not cutting out the middle man. It's just eliminating any competition that middlemen faced.

This is what they want ……
They want white guilt to have its own cabinet position.
They want every job interview to begin with an apology.
They want the national anthem replaced with a land acknowledgment and a flute solo.
They want kindergarteners learning finger painting, sharing, and revolutionary theory.
They don’t want police departments defunded — they want them replaced with conflict-resolution therapists named Sky.
They want prisons turned into wellness retreats where the inmates process their trauma and the guards apologize for having keys.
They want every college major to end in ‘studies.’ Engineering Studies. Math Studies. Sandwich Studies.
They want every public bathroom to have 47 signs, none of which tell you where the toilet is.
They want Thanksgiving replaced with National Apology Dinner.
They want capitalism abolished, except for iPhones, DoorDash, Netflix, and $9 oat milk lattes.
They want billionaires eliminated — unless the billionaire owns Patagonia, Tesla before Elon got weird, or a vegan cheese company.
They want all drugs legalized, then taxed, regulated, renamed ‘plant medicine,’ and sold by someone with a podcast.
They want abortion legal up to the point where the kid is applying for student loan forgiveness.
They want DEI in everything. You can’t even buy a toaster without being asked whether your breakfast appliance reflects lived experience.
They want no stay-at-home moms, unless the mom is writing a Substack about dismantling domestic labor.
They want families abolished, but they still want you to respect their chosen family, their work family, their polycule, and their dog’s emotional support network.
They want no borders, except around their gated community, their university safe space, and their personal boundaries.
They want free speech, unless the speech contains words, opinions, or vibes.
They want every argument to end with, ‘You need to educate yourself,’ which is progressive for ‘I am out of facts.’
They want the Constitution rewritten as a group project by sociology majors.
They want all elections decided by democracy, unless democracy produces the wrong result — then it’s misinformation, voter suppression, or colonial math.
They want churches taxed, but astrology apps should be federally subsidized.
They want men to stop being masculine, unless there’s a spider, a jar lid, or a noise downstairs.
They want America to apologize to every country on Earth — including countries that haven’t been invented yet.
They want climate justice so strict that eventually your gas stove will need a parole officer.
They want meat banned, but somehow bugs, lab protein, and mushroom-based sadness are freedom.
They want everyone to own nothing and be happy — except activists, who will still need Venmo, Patreon, and a book deal.

It's interesting how we know this board has a good number of progressives and libs, yet approximately zero were able to come in here and point to any specific outcome or manifestation of one party dem rule that is successful or should be pointed to to support them being in power more broadly.
It's almost like if they can't just virtue signal and speak in the broadest of terms their entire platform (if you can even call it that) falls apart.

Inversion is a thing. I breath much better now that I moved and my house was above the inversion.

Bunch of denialism baloney. Yo-yos on the right consider everyone on the left, like our own Powerman, to be a "evil pos". And yo-yos on the left consider everyone on the right to be another Hitler. You are showing yourself to be one of those yo-yos.
While I do believe that the far left is in the grip of a kind of insanity, and consequentially they are more violent, violence from the right is certainly not zero. That you think it is shows that you have been propagandized, probably by your social media algorithms.

Boise is doing it right

quote:
In 2021, 81% of Boise voters approved a $570 million “clean water and climate action bond,” McLean said, and last year just over 80% said yes to an $11 million levy to fund parks, open space, clean water initiative and wildfire restoration projects. In addition, the city is building all-electric police and fire stations and electrifying older municipal buildings, she said.
