In 2018, Louisiana’s population was about 4.66 million. Using the totals reported this morning in the Advocate, even though most of the recent spike of positive cases have been asymptomatic, and there have been numerous reports of various deaths being chalked up as COVID related although the person actually died from some other cause, so these numbers are very suspect. But never mind, let’s use those numbers.

The 91,706 positive cases, many of which are asymptomatic, represent less than 2% of our state’s population.

The 3,433 deaths that are supposedly due to COVID represent less that three-quarters of one-hundredth of one percent (.00074) of the state’s population.

Why then are we wrecking our economy, mandating everyone wear a mask, shutting small businesses down, etc. Please, somebody explain this to me.

IT'S NOT THE FLU!!!!

I have a friend of an uncle's cousin who knows somebody that he works with who's husband got it, and he was in bed for EIGHT days. He said you don't want to get this.

Also, there was a guy somewhere who went to something called a COVID party where he got it, and on his death bed, he said, "You have to tell them, Soylent Green is made from people!!!!"

96% of the people who catch the virus recover. And that percentage pretty much holds true for the entire country.

I just got a call from my wife that a cousin has died from covid and his wife has it too. So suddenly as that it’s not something happening only to other people

Then we are doing better than country average. We should be in Phase 4 by now.

Ha. I got 2 downvotes for the true comment that I got word from my wife that a cousin has died from covid.

Not sure if those are downvotes for the corona virus or because I interjected too much reality into the discussion

Ignorant liberals are too close minded to accept reality. Don’t be that

My SIL had it and she didn't even know she had it until she tested positive before an outpatient surgery. My ex's mother got it and was dead in less than a week. While the odds are in our favor, it's real.

People who are saying it is a hoax are stupid. Equally as stupid as the people who think hiding for two weeks or a month is a long term solution against a highly transmittable virus with no vaccine.

Can't disagree with that.

The only thing for positive discussion is what small steps can we take to help manage the virus so it down't cycle out of control again. You are correct, shutdowns are not a viable option.

2020 Election. By any means necessary. You must have missed the Kavenaugh confirmation hearings.

The best I've got for you is that mask wearing does not harm the economy. What it may allow is for us to go about our daily lives with a minor inconvenience.

Shutting down small businesses (or large businesses for that matter) does harm the economy. The only way such a thing may be justifiable is if there is no safe way to operate the businesses.

Now, if mask wearing reduces the risk of being in close quarters, and would allow all businesses to safely open, that may be the ticket to success.

Look, entire industries are shut down. Almost all entertainment, live music, theater, movies, clubs, the entire industry is shut down. All we should be concerned about is how to safely reopen everything. As it stands right now, masks, as much as I hate wearing them, seem to be the ticket.

1) why care about downvotes? MAYBE someone was saying they dislike this as in they dislike that he died???

2) my sis in law wasn't feeling well and got tested yesterday -- she was positive and today is feeling SO much better she said. Issue now is my mother/father/other sister in law now will quarantine as they were all on vacation together last week.

Same here. About a month ago, my wife called saying my aunt, her son and his wife all had it. Two weeks, a few sniffles and some general "not feeling well" later, they were all fine.

I had it. Middle aged guy, bad shape but can jog a slow mile.

Had fever for about 5 days that sucked. Tylenol and Gatorade and waited it out. Was winded easily for a few days but it came back.
