They can do what they want.

I know I'm not built for that world.

The problem is they've convinced themselves they are, which is easy to do on a keyboard living in modern luxury.

I'm still waiting on a theoretical hypothetical where it wouldn't be.

What do you think is going to happen if financial systems across the globe collapse?

Have a look at Venezuela’s oil production.

But our oil and companies are not public. Private companies will still have wells.
People will still go to work with promise of deferred payment.

Let's be honest though. You wouldn't last one day on a construction site. You're out of touch with them. You don't really know what people with calloused hands are capable of.

You are thinking in terms of paper dollars. The human animal has bartered and traded throughout our history. If you want to survive, you provide a service in exchange for things you need. Those with actual skills will be fine, those without are fricked.

For how long?

How long do you think it would take to build a new monetary system?

I mean as a broken down near-40 year old? Sure

5 years ago I could have though.

What does this have to do with building a financial infrastructure to keep commerce alive?

I get that.

How many chickens do we need to drop off at the power plant?

You should read the book. No. They won’t. They will take care of their families needs, not go to work for free.

Not to mention all the instability from roving gangs of violence.

Everyone posting in this thread just lived through Covid. That was a very slight disruption in the world and we all saw the drastic effects it had. The fact they can't imagine how everything would stop if the worldwide financial system and money as a concept melted down is troubling.

I can tell by your post that you are one of those with no skills to offer. I can't say I'm surprised.

Correct and they don't understand you. You come from different worlds.

Nothing. We're talking about Mad Max. How about an agricultural infrastructure to keep our family fed? We know you don't have a chance at that.

Didn't your ancestors settle this prairie, fight wars, go through depressions? That's your blood. They can do it but you can't? Not even worth trying? Think how ashamed they must be

My dad was a carpenter. I grew up on job sites. My mom grew up on a rice farm.

Me and my siblings are the first generation to have all the siblings go to college.

They were on the forward side of progress.

We don't have access to their technology or know how anymore. We will go back before them.

When Rome collapses Europe didn't recover for 500-750 years for a reason. They continued to use Roman roads until the Industrial Revolution and didn't exceed the Tech until what? The Renaissance? Industrial Revolution?

When major society collapses, you don't just slide back a little.

This is all ridiculous, but…keeping the lights on isn’t caring for their families, communities?

see, you could've spent time learning how to use a plow. Some people did. You have had access to your father's woodworking technology.
